Back of Dumbo Building

I'm all for a new attraction where the speedway is....heck you could probably fit a couple in that space! AND something new could hide the dumbo building...
I mean I get why the speedway was in tomorrowland to begin with....there wasn't a huge highway system back in the 50's so having multiple lanes etc was "futuristic"........but now it's time for something else..IMHO

Count me amongst those that think replacing the Speedway is a better option. I think my ideal scenario would be an updated Speeway attraction that is integrated into another attraction (i.e. where the track weaves in and out of another structure).

Or at the very least, upgrade the cars to electric or something, you know, that you could get in a Todayland, let alone a Tomorrowland... I mean, is the future really full of smelly, loud, gas guzzling cars? Wait, dont answer that...

In a perfect world, Speedway would go and all that real estate could be used for something else.

Off topic... but I like this idea! The Speedway is fun for children so I would like it to stay in some capacity... it would be neat if the cars went through another attraction!

update them with solar powered cars...that would be cool

I think the issue is finding/developing battery powered cars that will run all day/night. You would need a way to recharge them while they are running. I don't think having a "3rd rail" on the track would be good for PR. You would need to have a fleet of cars large enough to keep many of them in a charging station.

Off topic, but this brings to mind a good question , how many miles/day do you think the cars typically travel? Do any of our resident experts know?

a few things could happen to the speedway:
1- bulldoze it and build other attraction(s)
2- re-theme to futureistic cars or Cars movie (right now the speedway is just plain anyways)
3- get rid of the gas powered smelly cars and make them electric on the track themselves (or battery powered that re-charge as they go on the electric track)
4- combination of 2 and 3

*that's early 70's. I don't think it was ever futuristic (at least in WDW), but it served as a fun ride that no one would question and sort kinda transitioned fantasyland and tomorrowland

Agreed. I also liked Rsox's idea for an integration of two rides.

The simplest thing to do is, as an earlier post suggested, theme it to the speedway. Giving it some semblance to a pit garage with signage and flats. Make it disappear by making it belong.

Actually, I can see them hiding the lower building with some tall shrubs or bushes, but then theres an upper level where those ducts are and nothing comes to mind to block those things...

Not the ride itself, but the big green showbuilding.

From the model, it looks like trees are planned to do the trick. I think it will work. I think the speedway is at a lower grade, so trees/bushes will block the back. A bit more tricky from Barnstormer, but I think totally workable.

I'm sure they will paint it go-away green.
From the looks of things, I think that Unkadug has the best evaluation. Why spend money on superfluous themeing? http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.ph...006217234035.121025.1201788636&type=1&theater

The Speedway is even more incongruent than that; Disneyland's Autopia was at least the "highway of the future," while the Florida version has always been a Speedway, as in, a race track. I just wonder why this attraction never caught a case of 20,000 Leagues-itis, where Disney decides to shut it down an attraction because it is very expensive to maintain.

How expensive could it really be to maintain? Every local amusement park has tons of go carts.
