I'm a pretty big Marvel fan and Spider-Man has always been my favorite superhero (when the reboot with Tom Holland all started one of my coworkers at the time told me I looked like the new Spider-Man and got all the sushi chefs to call me Peter instead of my real name) so I am excited for the new ride and especially the animatronic in the queue and the stuntimatronic or whatever they call it that will swing around. While the RAIMI movies started my love for Spider-Man, I prefer Tom Holland's Spider-Man and I think it's really cool how he is tied in with the Avengers, I'm not sure about how they basically set him up to be the "next Tony Stark" in the MCU but that's besides the point, but I am very much in the target audience for this expansion and I am being cautiously optimistic.
As people have said here, I think that the land will be very fun to walk through and look at as long as it operates in A mode which could go either way given the current situation. I know Disney is going to want a big "premiere" approach to the reopening of the parks so it's possible they'll want to put their best foot forward and right their wrongs with opening GE without all the droids, stunt shows, and aliens. I think people argue if that was true that they would have started implementing them into GE already but I think a line from the Imagineering Story summed it up well, it was something along the lines of "it's much harder to fix something you've done wrong, it's always easier to do the right thing the first time." That's my guess with their approach, especially with the loss of profits from this entire closure situation, they are weighing their options: spend the money on adding to the already lukewarm opening of GE or spend the money on the opening of AC and make a huge splash with the land in A mode in order to drive attendance.
As for the ride system, I will be honest at first I was kinda disappointed because I don't go on TSMM when I'm in the parks and will only ever really go on Buzz because the line is usually pretty short for that ride. Now that I think of it, I would probably go on TSMM more if it wasn't so busy all the time, it can be fun sometimes. I prefer rides to not be video games but that's a whole other discussion I don't wanna get into right now, so for now we just have to accept that Disney sees these "immersive" game experiences are popular with the guests. Seeing how they aren't using a blaster to shoot the webs and that you instead use your own hand and mimic shooting webs has me genuinely excited to see and try out. I can definitely see how cool it can be if done right, that kids can truly feel like they are Spider-Man shooting webs out their wrists like when I was younger and begged my mom to buy the Spider-Man silly string shooting glove thing to pretend like I was Spider-Man. Plus, this ride is intended to only be an additional ride to the main E-Ticket which makes me not as disappointed that it is just another game ride. I know the Falcon is the same thing, game ride that's in addition to a main E-Ticket and that Falcon has a bad rep around here, but like I said I think this ride has some potential. I am glad, like everyone else, that the ride goes through the whole campus and isn't just in indoor sections only; I am hoping it is something like RSR when you go inside the cave in Monument Valley and enter the night time recreation of the main road. If they can pull off something even close to that it will be very convincing and very cool. I know I am really excited to ride the ride for two things: the web shooting mechanic, and getting to see the Spider-Man animatronic and "help Spider-Man" because of how much I have loved the character throughout my whole life; he's the superhero that got me into reading comic books and into the idea of superheroes in general, which then got me to go see the Iron Man movie in theaters and turned me into a Marvel fan.
Disney needs to truly deliver on what they are promising and learn from their mistakes, I am very hopeful that they are and open the land with everything being promised, but I understand the shared notion that the park will be "meh" without everything they are talking about having in the land. I am being very cautiously optimistic but my friend who works full time at the parks and has been personally involved with AC hasn't told me anything specific or even vaguely specific, she has just told me that she is pretty impressed by what they are working on creating and is very hopeful for the land. Obviously that isn't saying much but I am I guess just hoping to be impressed, I really want to see the land in it's full glory and to see Disney prove they can still deliver impressive expansions. Pandora in AK was amazing to experience in person and I know that there's no way this can even compare in terms of scale or beauty given the decision of the campus atmosphere, but I want to see Disney sort of redeem themselves in a way from the empty promises of GE and create an environment that feels alive. I guess that's the main thing, people here always say GE is beautiful but feels like an empty movie set, I really hope they're able to make AC feel alive.
I was watching *gasp* a Disney YouTuber couple who were on a Disney Cruise because their plans of doing a Disney Park World Tour was cut early mid trip due to the closures, and in the halls they had a Spider-Man costume character walking around and he genuinely sounded like Tom Holland. It caught me by surprise while watching, obviously they had a mask on but with the voice it was so convincing hearing the actor's voice under the costume. If they are able to find these guys that sound like Tom Holland for the cruises to walk around and interact with guests, I would really really hope they were able to bring that to AC. While watching the video when I heard him talk I immediately thought of how they need to implement that into AC because that would be pretty fun to see. It would be as popular with the kids as seeing Kylo and Rey walk around GE and interrogate people or hide behind trash cans to avoid the First Order I think.
