They should have just left it as TOT instead of quickly repainting the queue and adding strip lights above doorways. If they wanted to use the space for a new ride, just tear it down rather than trying to shove a square peg into a round hole.

They clearly didn't have the time or money devoted to making Mission BO a good replacement or even a good part of Avengers Campus.

I’m with you but I’d rather have that ride system at the resort than not have it. Also, is there an E ticket out there that makes better use of such a small footprint?

It doesn't work at all thematically. IFRC they claimed the tower sort of fell out of the sky and landed where it is? Pretty lucky it happened to land right by Avengers Campus I guess... But seriously it doesn't fit at all the two aren't connected in absolutely any way. They just wanted to be able to say "Hey look! We're adding a new Marvel ride from the MCU because we're going to have a whole Marvel area soon!

Disney ret-conned the 'fell from the sky' business. Now the Collector set his tower in DCA on purpose. This was from the D23 exhibit about Avengers campus.

Ugh... My eyes glazed over after the first sentence.

If you have to explain your theme with an essay, then I think it is safe to say that your theme has failed.
My opinion is that WDI made that specifically for uber-Park fans who question everything, like why the Collector is next Avengers Campus. The general public isn't likely to question why the Collector is there, they just want to go on a drop ride.

The problem isn't who WDI aims these stories at, it's that WDI doesn't have a cogent internal thought process. This is a symptom of the problem, not the cause.

The point is still the fact that the GP doesn't question or care really why the Collector dropped his fortress in the middle of DCA.

The side line issue of WDI is more of a larger systemic issue side Disney rather than WDI itself, in my opinion.

I think the ride could have worked if they were willing to invest in it. The ride is designed to be a horror attraction due to the scare factor of a drop ride. This is why Monsters After Dark works so much better than the regular Mission BO does. For any of the Marvel properties to work in the space, it would require a few things:

1. Actually retheme the queue/facade. Rather than having an oil refinery with art decco structure or badly repainted boiler room filled with junk, take the time to make the facade and queue fit the attraction.

2. Add practical effects/scenes. I get it, screens are easy and don't have the uncanny valley of an AA human character. However, they are also flat and boring as a focal point. Even with the current set up, having practical effects occur between the screen and us would work wonders. What is there were a variety effects for our current set up. Certain songs might have a Baby Groot AA atop a crate that houses him for other songs/sequences. Maybe a Rocket figure or an alien tentacle that thrashes through a wall. Laser and bast effects for when a character shoots on screen and it hits the wall right next to our lift. Things need to happen TO us, not just in front of us. So many options instead of rushing past the one practical scene incredibly quickly and then watching the same framed screen the rest of the ride.

3. Write a story that works rather than being lazy. Why is access to The Collector's star exhibit through a cluttered basement that is clearly not meant for VIPs? Why does the facade indicate that Rocket has escaped when the queue video shows him still caged only to have him escaped moments later? Wouldn't it have been more exciting to have us enter the Fortress with a breach in progress? Rocket has escaped and we're being ushered to a secure room to be questioned by the Collector and Rocket breaks us out as long as we agree to help him, so he sneaks us into the off limits area.

Anyways, the damage is already done. I doubt any replacement would have been as great at TOT, seeing as it was built with that in mind, but it was sad to see justified ideas like enclosing the top of the tower for a 3rd show scene were cut to save time and money. The ride could have been good.

Apparently, ironically, it was not cheap. Tom Morris stated in an interview that he saw how much it cost and thought to himself, "You know, for that amount of money you could have built a brand new attraction."

As we all well know, Imagineering is really, really bad with money.

Maybe built a whole new cheap attraction, but not something as advanced as the ride system in place. Demo costs would have increased the price tag for tearing it down to build something else as well.

I don't think there's anything special about the online community. People definitely pick up on the disconnect.

One doesn't exist without the other.

How do we think the cost of GotG compares to Spiderman? I'm guessing both are shockingly expensive, and probably closer than anyone would want to admit.

They just cancelled Oogie Boogie Bash for DCA this year.

I think that lends credence to the thought that TDA/Burbank will be purposely slow walking the final construction phases and pre-opening processes for this land, in order to delay its opening until later in 2021. Plus push as much of the budget as possible into Fiscal 2021 instead of the disastrous Fiscal 2020.

It's kind of obvious from the recent photos they aren't rushing around this land trying to get it all done. I would imagine an early Spring, 2021 opening might be the earliest, with Summer 2021 as the safer bet at this point.

Well, WDW cancelled Halloween party upsells. And UO just cancelled HHN. It's just an awareness that upsell/large crowd events just can't happen at this time.

Seems like every year Disneyland opens or attempts to open a new land recently, disaster strikes. God forbid they ever open Avenger College, Disneyland might blow up or something.

I’m at the point where I don’t want them to add anything else to DLR, especially Disneyland. At least not until we get some people we trust again. I’m perfectly content with what’s already at Disneyland and it’s only getting worse with every “addition.”
