At the risk of sounding overly idealistic and not like my usual self- I'm actually completely fine with what it looks like they're delivering for this Spider Man attraction/the whole project.
WDI is fighting an uphill battle with this whole project. The Marvel Universe isn't particularly suited for a theme park land, since it takes place primarily in metropolitan cities that don't translate well into a themed environment in a Disney Park. Add in the fact that every year new heroes are introduced, people are killed, new villains and settings are added, and the iconic characters get new costumes/looks- how can you possibly build a land that is able to easily adapt and grow with the universe? By doing exactly what they're doing- making it an Avengers Base to justify the wide amount of heroes we'll undoubtedly see in the land.
One of the things about the Marvel Universe that resonates with everyone is the idea that anyone can become a hero- and that being a hero extends beyond a genetic mutation/suit/whatever other power you have. This message is especially profound on younger children (like below the age of 10). By building this attraction, youth are now able to live this message. If executed well, it'll be incredibly inspirational for that demographic, while still being fun for teenagers and adults.
This ride isn't meant to be the headliner of the land. It's the support attraction- and I honestly think it's going to be far better then the trash Falcon ride WDI delivered last year that's received a collective *yawn* from almost everyone.
This land will be a defining land for the park. In 10 years DCA will be Avengers Campus/Cars Land/Pixar Pier/Grizzly/Buena Vista. I strongly suspect Paradise Gardens Park and Hollywood Backlot don't have much time left.
