Lot of cheering when this trailer came on today in my theater. I was overwhelmed with emotion honestly it all looked just so stunning. I for one cant wait to return to Pandora, with the most immersive theater ever

I saw the original in the theater's twice, it was a visual feast, but hasn't really stuck with me. I bought the Blu-ray but never watched it and have never watched the movie in it's entirety again. This trailer was not in the least bit compelling. From the little that is in it, it looks like a rehash of the first movie.

The trailer didn't wow me, gave off a bit of a "more of the same" vibe.

Regardless, James Cameron's track record speaks for itself. The man makes entertaining movies.

Avatar wasn't my favourite of his, and it was a bit bloated, but the big battle scene was worth the price of admission alone.

It's the highest grossing move of all time, yet people continue pushing this myth that no one enjoyed it or cares about the franchise at all. It's silly.

The trailer looked amazing, but did nothing to excite me for the movie. I want the trailer to show at least something to do with the plot, this just felt like a bunch of stunning shots strung together.

Box office gross does not always correlate with long term appeal or widespread reverence.

A better example than Avatar would be Alice in Wonderland (2010), which made over $1 billion worldwide when that figure meant a lot more than it does today, but really seems hated.

That's true, and we'll see how it does. While I don't think Avatar has the same cultural impact as other big franchises like Star Wars and Marvel, I also feel a lot of the critics fell into the "I'm going to express my dislike for this because it's super popular and I like to be different" crowd.

Alice was not a great movie IMO, but just happened to be the first live action adaptation of a Disney movie and had a super popular Johnny Depp, so it grabbed a lot of viewers. Avatar was one of Cameron's weaker efforts, but that's relative. The guy has made some of the most popular films of all time, and is remarkably consistent. It's a much better movie than Alice IMO.

It's a teaser trailer. This is common. The full trailer will lay out the story.

Eh maybe. I mean, thor, I understand he's getting back in shape and is wanting to leave the idea of super heroes behind. This one I know they are swimming. I don't know, just my opinion, this has done nothing to excite me yet, we will see with a real trailer.

Yes people enjoyed the movie, that's why it did as well as it did. I don't think too many people deny that. The new 3D tech and visuals were a spectacle and people wanted to see it. As far as cares go, I guess you have to define cares. Avatar left almost zero pop culture footprint. You would think the highest grossing movie of all time might get a better response then "oh yea, that movie with the tall blue creatures." I personally wouldn't say most people care. I'd say they are more indifferent. They don't love it, but they don't hate it either. I've said I think this will probably do pretty well. People will be curious to see what it's all about. It's the 3rd movie that could underperform if this one is just more of the same.

People are making a point of viewing the trailer, so it's still in the public consciousness to some degree.

Disney and 20th Century have revealed that in its first 24-hour online window, the clip racked up 148.6 million views, including 23 million from China alone. The number doesn’t include the millions more who saw the trailer before “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” last weekend.

Its view count puts it ahead of all recent “Star Wars” films, but behind that of two other works this year alone – Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” series teaser (257M) and Marvel’s “Thor: Love and Thunder” teaser trailer (209M).

Of course it is. I have no doubt that it will do well. Curiosity will get people into the seats for sure. But if it is just more of the same, that 3rd movie might struggle and this one might not have great legs.

I'm planning to see the first Avatar in IMAX 3D this weekend. Anyone else?

I know many will not watch the re-release because they have the movie at home. But I think watching Avatar at home is merely watching a movie, while seeing it on the big screen in 3D is "returning to Pandora."

I'm not saying its not a good movie, but after watching it a couple times the first time around its lost its "wow" factor.

Bring on Way of the Water though, that should bring back the "wow" factor in my opinion.

Yeah? I saw it a few times in the cinema. Maybe once on home media shortly after it came out. Then didn't watch it for years. Maybe 4 or so years ago I watched it again and was amazed at how good it was. There was a quality to it that was lacking in most major films. It was a solid and really good film.

Can't wait to see it again in IMAX 3D

I'm glad you're looking forward to watching it again in theaters.

As I said I'm not saying its not a good movie, it is. I watched it multiple times when it first came out, a couple times in 3D and once in regular 2D. I've seen it multiple times over the years at home as well. So again its a good film overall. However its not the same as when it first came out, again losing its "wow" factor. The "wow" factor I'm talking about is the 3D technology that Cameron used that relaunched 3D back into theaters and launched 3D into peoples homes (which lasted all of about 10 years when the companies stopped producing 3D TVs). That technology ended up not progressing very far (still waiting on that glasses-free 3D promised more than a decade ago) and became overused by Studios cheaply converting their 2D films into 3D resulting in bad 3D movies. And overused so much that almost no movies come out in 3D today. To say the least 3D lost its luster, its "wow" factor.

So yeah I'm not going to see Avatar again in theaters this time around. However as I said Way of the Water should bring back the "wow" factor with Cameron's use of technology.
