Star Wars, and it's no contest.

I would never set foot in an Avatar land. You couldn't bribe me with anything to visit an Avatar land.

It always surprises me when people say things like this. I just can't fathom disliking an IP so much that I wouldn't even try out a ride based on it. I am not a big fan of the Cars movies but I absolutely loved Carsland.

I think people are just saying that. I bet they'd definitely visit Avatar Land, simply because they'd be curious.

Agreed about Cars/Cars Land. I thought Cars was boring but Cars Land is outstanding.

I saw the movie and didn't like it; didn't care for the story, and thought the movie was waste of my time after seeing it. I just don't have any reason or interest in anything Avatar now. Why would I want to see more of something I simply don't care for?

(For the record, I feel the same about Harry Potter as well, so if I ever decide to go to Universal again, I'd never visit that land also.)

Yeah I don't see how this is even a contest. Star Wars is perfect for Disney and Universal style theme parks. Star Wars and Disney have always had this teasing "Will they or won't they?" relationship. You start off with Star Tours, which was a pretty conservative attraction. They just kept adding more and more stuff as the years went on like the outdoor queue and props at MGM, children swinging plastic bats at Darth Vader, B-grade "celebrities" in cars, etc. Now Disney owns Star Wars. Stop teasing us and just build the Death Star.

Of course, there is a danger of them just ruining it. You know, like how the show where children swing plastic bats at Darth Vader is just kind of embarrassing and terrible to anyone over the age of 5 whose children are not swinging the bats. Then there's always the chance they could get it right and just build an exact replica of Cloud City with a giant slide attraction where you down the chute in the abyss.

So what about attractions that aren't based on and IP at all?

So many directions the Imagineers could go in putting together a Star Wars Land versus an Avatar Land. Not including the tons of added merchandise that could be offrred. Just look at how much the Star Wars weekends draw the devoted fans. Adding a Land of their own would be such a successful move, attracting fans of all ages.

I've never seen Avatar, but I would rather see SW as it seems to have a bigger fan base. Also, when was the last time Disney had Avatar Weekends?

Hey! That could've been Disney's BIG NYE announcement...
Weekend it up everyone for 2013!!!
Cinderella's Weekend! Pinocchio's Weekend! Nemo's Weekend! Etc.
TDO, clearly, missed the boat...yet again...! ;)

Both parks really need something. AK needs the addition of something so that they can finally take down EE for refurb. DHS pretty much needs the back half of the park bulldozed and redone. With all of the work/expansion being done at UNI, maybe that will put the pressure on the Disney board to do something to both parks. As for the question posed, while I prefer Star Wars hands down, if it meant that AK would not get anything, I would rather see them proceed with Avatarland. Personally I would prefer they put Beastly Kingdom into AK but we can't always get what we wish for.

Sorry Star Trek is 100 times better than Star Wars, Star Wars is the first movies to be made to sell toys, simple stories for simple people with cute easily sell able creatures. I don't want to see that Lucas garabage at all. I would rather see Disney give Avatar a good try, Star Wars would just end up being a massive building filled with crap to buy.

We're talking about theme parks.
The one thing we can be sure of is no matter what they build it's going to end up having a massive building filled with crap to buy.

If Star Trek was on the table I would really run for cover. I have no interest in Star Trek. I think it is kind of weird.Sorry to all Star Trek fans.

Star Wars is so awesome. My kids were watching dance offs this morning from past years at DHS SW weekends. We are trying to see if we can swing a long weekend in May to go there since the weekends have been announced. With that being said, if many many people make the journey to DHS just for SW weekends, I think a SWLand would really become very popular.
I don't think AK is an appropriate place for it, though. It just doesn't seem to fit. DHS or even in the MK off of Tomorrowland seems like the only choices that would make any kind of sense. But what do I know. ;)

Pandoraland wasn't even set to open until, what, late 2016 at the very earliest?
Asking the designers to go back to the drawing board, again, is only going to push things back even further.

We've had this same thread at least a dozen times before, and everyone keeps making the same points, so I might as well point out, again, that Avatar made more money than all three Star Wars prequels.
Combined.

OK, I will give you that.....but how much has the SW franchise made in total....includeing merch etc.? versus what Avatar has made total....includeing theater tickets, merch. EVERYTHING?.....not even close.

Avatar all the way!

I just don't think Star Wars would be made into the land it deserves with the budget it would recieve. If Disney were to pump an extreme amount of money into it and build it right, then sure go ahead! But I want my Pandora first!

Star Wars definitely! Hubby and I went to see the first Star Wars in 1977 for our 10th anniversary just thinking it was another space move. Boy did we enjoy it and were eager for the next episode to come out! That time period had so many classic movies - Indiana Jones, Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, ET, Poltergeist, Goonies, Alien, etc., many of which went on to have great sequels as well. I didn't have any of those feelings of excitement though for the future of Avatar when I saw it, and I have no desire to see it a second time either. On the other hand I've seen the Star Wars (the first three that were made anyway) so many time that I can even recite some of the scripts! Just think of how many phrases that are part of out culture now that came from that trilogy - "those are not the droids you were seeking" and " may the force be with you" to name a few.
