AVATAR land - the specifics

Regarding tiers, I could see arguments either way. I think Disney would like to avoid tiers in that they are viewed as frustrating/confusing for guests and I'm hopeful that DAK won't get them. I mean, if you miss out on FoP/NRJ/RoL, then "settling" for Everest, Kilimanjaro and Dinosaur doesn't seem like a bad consolation.

I guess we'll see come late March.

This is amazing! I planned our trip for later in the year hoping Pandora would open early enough to work out all the kinks before I get there. That way, I have time to research the best way to experience all the new goodies. It will be interesting to see what the restaurants serve as "Na'vi" food as the theming is supposed to see us transported to their planet to learn about their culture. I am so ready for this adventure!

How long is your trip? One day at AK probably won't be enough.

When do you think Fastpasses will be available, and do you think they'll announce it? Visiting the first week of June and trying to figure out my game plan.

I would guess they'll be available at the 60 day mark starting 3/28 for 5/27 Fastpasses. I'm in the same boat as you but with a little more time. Going in August and it's really tough planning the schedule for the week (which I need for dining reservations) when I don't know how many times I'll be at DAK and at what time of day.

You really think it will require multiple days to see everything there now? Man, I'm gonna need a 10 day pass! I am thinking about first week of June and am hoping Avatar won't be so packed with schools still in session. Fingers crossed

Even if they don't do tiered Fastpasses, which they might, you're looking at FPs for the two Avatar attractions plus Rivers of Light. With one of your FPs tied up in the nighttime show, you won't be able to use any more than your three in the day. That means you're waiting standby for everything else.

I mentioned my personal touring plan earlier in the thread. I usually do four hour "blocks," either 9a - 1p and 4p to 8p. I'm planning at least three of those (12 hours total) for my August trip.

I would not be surprised at all if they do a Tiered Faspass model much like EC where both Pandora attractions and Rivers of Light (if it's open) are Tier 1 and you can only choose 1 from that tier. The demand will outstrip supply anyway but if resort guests can just grab all 3 at 60 days out, nobody else will ever have any chance at getting them which will likely cause a GR nightmare for them.

That was my theory a few pages back as well. The counter-argument folks made is that DAK also offers Everest and Kilimanjaro, which are both very popular, not to mention Kilimanjaro's huge capacity. We shall see I suppose.

Long-time lurker. But we have a trip planned arriving on May 21st and leaving the 28th and I had been expecting DAK to be one of the easy days to plan... 'til now. If we decided not to get caught up in the madness surrounding the opening of Pandora, what can I expect elsewhere in the park?? Would it draw folks away from the other attractions or should I plan for long lines throughout and utter chaos?? :)

With the introduction of Fastpass+, it'll probably be chaos in the whole park for awhile. People with Avatar reservations late in the day will clog up the rest of the park in the morning and vice versa.

Isn't this concern the reason AK has quietly been expanding eating options and facility capacity across the park. Specifically Harambe? To the fastpass issue AK will have three E tickets Safari, Everest, and Pandora Soarin' Two D tickets Dinosaur, Rapids, and then the Dinosaur fair rides one of which has fastpass and three shows Tough to be a bug, nemo, and Lion King. If they tier it I bet they will put Everest, Safari, and at least one Avatar ride as tier one, maybe both attractions? Tier two will have the remainder, choose two.

Sure, and I think those additions will be very valuable and help stabilize things in the long run. But in the first few days, weeks, and months, the increased demand will more than outpace the increased capacity IMO. It should only be a short-term issue, but it's very important to people traveling this summer, especially May and June.

Don't forget Rivers of Light. It would certainly be Tier 1 if they go that route.
