AVATAR land - the specifics

The insiders said the system is similar to Soarin. The article says: "The flying sequences will be brought to life through large video screens — similar to “Soarin'” — with vehicles moving with the 3D action inside a massive theater."

The insiders haven't mentioned much about the animatronic banshee we keep hearing about, so we don't really know if it's original or not.

I've knocked it, too, but at the same time, WDW is hardly the place to get on about them using screens. There's no other way to do an attraction like this. Not everything can be a coaster. And we're getting, a hopefully immersive, boat ride.
No, universal relies heavily on them but that doesn't make it good. The criticism that Universal gets is deserved but that should serve as a warning of what disney should avoid.

If they can truly seem like you are sitting on a banshee during this ride that will be a major step up from just a Soarin' clone. I love Soarin, but I don't really feel "transported" when I get on it, I feel as if I am riding a simulation of being in a hang glider, instead of feeling like I am actually hang gliding.

I know about the Uni complaints, but at the same time, I'm not super upset over Soarin 2.0 because of the chance it at least visually is going to be different. Again, I've knocked it too. If we weren't getting the boat ride I'd argue just as much against Soarin 2.0. Like I said, if I feel totally immersed, I'm less upset it's Soarin over Pandora. I see what they are going for with the idea of flying on a banshee but it's the execution to me, not the ride system (which sounds like it will have more movement than Soarin, so how is that not an improvement?). It's like saying all of the boat rides the Disney Parks do aren't interesting enough because it's a boat. They're all well themed and different. I don't care what takes me there as long as I'm immersed.

Exactly. I enjoyed riding it. Once or twice. But that's all it is. I felt a tiny bit immersed simply because I'm not a fan of heights, but I understand just thinking of it as a simulation, but you could technically argue that for any simulation experience or cheesy dated animatronic rides.

But that's all it's really supposed to be though (Soarin 1.0). A hang gliding simulation.

I suppose you wont be "riding" the animatronic banshee.. Maybe its part of the props on your sides? so you appear like you have companions flying around you?

Hahaha.

What springs to mind for me -- what's a banshee??

I'm sure I will enjoy the new land, but will not see the movie.

sort of a flying dinosaur. primary transportation of the Na'vi aliens in the movie AVATAR.

Don't let other people's negative attitude turn you off to seeing the movie. It's may not be something you will watch over and over, but it's definitely worth watching at least once.
agree, the movie is pretty much "Pocahontas" in space.
But the visuals are incredible.

I haven't been swayed by anyone's opinion of the movie. I have chosen not to see it. Not my interest.

Come to think of it, I don't remember anyone in my social setting having conversations about this movie. I'll tell you tho, that if the Land and rides are good, it will encourage me to see the movie.
