AVATAR land - the specifics

Four faces were replaced, including Landau's (the new face has an open teeth-showing smile that wasn't there before). But Landau is still around and on the project.

Therefore, the claim that 'fired people' are 'being erased' is FALSE. It is demonstrably not true.

So why were those four photoshopped and not the other two? No one knows at this point.
Except they replaced fired people so it is true. That's undeniable.

That's disgusting. Whoever had the picture photoshopped has serious issues.

People join and leave a company all the time. Those 3 individuals were all present at the groundbreaking ceremony. They all played a role in the project. None of them were convicted of any terrible crime, or made the company look bad. In fact, they all resigned. What's wrong with keeping them in the photo? Why replace them with random faces?

All that this childish crap does is raise eyebrows. I hope someone with a sense of respect and appreciation has this taken down or replaced.

I can't speak on Landau's hair. Whoever had that part photoshopped is just strange.

Well three of those four were completely changed and those three are no longer with the company. Jon's face was made to look like his Marshall Lamb character from ACE. I believe that is the reason.

It seems to me that they just re-purposed the photo to use as an Alpha Centauri Expeditions prop. Disney probably doesn't want to use their former staff members in a purposefully recontextualized photo.

It's certainly quirky, but I don't think the food is as weird as it appears. You can get pretty normally-spiced beef and chicken over rice, potatoes, or potato chips. There's a cheeseburger, but it's served like a Sloppy Joe in a steamed bun. The kids menu has pigs-in-a-blanket and quesadillas.
I'm such a picky eater. I'm starting to branch out a little more. I think I'll give the chicken over chips a try lol or just get a quesadilla. Disney does usually add a few somewhat traditional dishes after a while so hopefully they add some to Pandora soon. I really want to try the desserts though.

Without reading through all the threads and posts, did they end up putting in the "light up" walkways?

Pressure point light up isn't in place and likely won't be.

The plants being synced to light up in patterns based on passer-bys and touch may still come to fruition. Implementation of outside lighting FX was still being worked on in May, so, it may still become a thing once done... OR, it didn't work and everything is just going to be left on in full.

They could have easily staged a new photo with people they wanted in it... instead they went this incredibly tacky and disrespectful route. It reeks of horrible leadership and culture

Tim Tracker has visited twice now and in his post opening day video he noticed a few little additions. Little bugs (hard to make out, but he describes them as spider-like are seen inside some plants.) More significantly he points out some crustaceans that have joined the squirters in the pond:

Others that had been at the previews had noticed some small bioluminescent plants added in the center of the stream as you enter.

Might be nice to have a post-opening tracker for any little changes that happen in this opening season. Anyone lucky enough to have not only visited, but visited more than once, keep an eye out.

Perhaps this is just evolution taking its course. Love finds a way!

Quoting this from another board, this is so cool!!

So Len Testa and Jim Hill were talking about Pandora on the Disney Dish and they mentioned how some of the waterfalls were projected, so that they would look more real for the forced perspective. They fall at a slower rate than a small stream of water would, to make them appear farther away. They said the projections were even visible during the day.

I knew that couldn't be right. No way those waterfalls were projections. So on my second trip I zoomed in my video camera... And what did I see? They're wheels!

They're physical wheels with a water texture carved into them rotating with only a small section visible from the front. There's some netting placed at the bottom to make it look like mist below it. It's a convincing effect, but once you see it up close you'll never be able to un-see it.

Glad they did something here... as I mentioned it months ago, the waterfalls were going to be a problem with the forced perspective.

The things that stand out to me so far...

The waterfalls break any sense of forced perspective with the centerpiece. The speed of the water and scale completely detract from the idea of distance

Not really. The further away something is, the slower it will appear to move to you from your POV. Your brain is conditioned to see that and expect it. When you see that water stream.. it doesn't look like a 50ft wide stream of water hundreds of feet away, it looks like a 1ft wide stream of water 50ft away because your brain picks up on how fast its falling. The use of free falling water in a forced perspective scene is a bad idea.

The entire idea is to fool your brain.. and when you stick things in the field of view that work COUNTER to the illusion.. then that is going to break the entire thing.
