AVATAR land - the specifics

So, on the topic of the specifics for Pandora.... the press releases did talk about "A Na’vi-built drum circle, containing instruments playable by all" which I think is the area on the left side of the land as you enter from Discovery Island, kinda near the bathrooms next to Rainforest Cafe. I'm not expecting anything huge this this, but hopefully it will be a fun area for kids and the young at heart.

They also talked about "Na’vi totems and other cultural items found throughout the land" which I wonder if there will be signs like a museum detailing aspects of Na'vi culture and life on Pandora. Also, is this were some interactive elements might come into play?

And there will be "Brand-new Wilderness Explorers challenges and badges to collect" which does answer the question as to whether this area of the park will participate in that program. While this is a minor offering, I'm curious as to how they'll make it work -- will they use made up stuff from Pandora to explain issues or phenomena on Earth? Or will they use actually Earth organisms to talk about possible extra terrestrial life? Or would they use theoretical (but real) science in discussing aliens? Lots of different ways they could go with it.

Finally, nothing is mentioned, but I'm still curious about any entertainment/streetmosphere. I hope there is something planned as that is always a big part of Disney lands to me that really enhances the theme and atmosphere.

I'd love it if they could revisit the dragon they had for New Fantasyland and make it into a banshee to actually fly over the land every night.

Yeah, odd to see those late hours for DAK. However, they haven't updated MK's summer hours yet, and we expect them to hit 11 PM and Midnight (with EMH to 2 AM), making MK the later park.
The rumor is that AK will offer EMHs every night from opening through July 4th weekend meaning it will stay open until 1am most nights which will be later than MK on all nights without EMHs. Not sure if that rumor is true or not.

Pretty much my bench mark for the boat ride is.... do better than malestrom and Mexico boat ride.

If it can do that... it's doing its job. The screen integration in Shanghai gives me high hopes the screen/set integration will be good (better than nemo). I have no expectations for the finale. Alas it probably will not be fun like monsters inc... which proves entertaining is more valuable than stunning tech.

I am the only one who thinks it would've been a stretch but interesting to utilizes Magic Band technology similar to the neutral Avatar and Banshee connection?
A million years ago, I think I saw a video with Joe Rohde talking about how MagicBands would be integrated into the land somehow, but I'm not sure I could find it now. It was years ago now; the idea could have been discarded.

Well, we already make kids travel to Africa and Asia for their badges... what's a little interstellar hop?

That plant must somehow be human made then. No way it's natural because for all we know an atmosphere that's ok for us is toxic to life on Pandora.

Well, the planet did absorb the lifeforce of Sigourney Weaver. That could have had an effect. (Just spitballing)

On a serious note, are we expecting there to be other types of physical animation (sets, animals) other than the shaman and the wiggle plants?

There have definitely been mentioned of interactive elements in the land, so I would not be surprised to see the magic bands involved with that.

Seeing as they've incorporated Magic Band interaction with pre-existing rides, they are most certainly putting it to use in Pandora.

These will be situated mostly in front of and to the sides of the mountains I'm not expecting anything huge this this, but hopefully it will be a fun area for kids and the young at heart.

The queue and dining hall will allow museum like experiencesAlso, is this were some interactive elements might come into play?

A new release suggest a few phrases you may what to know:

"Here are some key phrases in the Na’vi language you might want to know before visiting:

  • Kaltxi [kahl-T’IH] means “Hello”
  • Irayo [ee-RAH-yo] means “Thanks”
  • Rutxe [roo-T’EH] means “Please”
  • Oeru syaw [WEH-roo syow] means “My name is “
  • Alpha Centauri Expeditions (ACE)"
Here is an explanation of the PCI"
"The Pandora Conservation Initiative (PCI) is a group of scientists who study the world of Pandora. A specialized subset of PCI has inherited and refined the Avatar program which is now offered for tourists. Thanks to PCI scientists and technicians, Guests can connect to their own avatar and fly over Pandora on the back of a mountain banshee. A Na’vi guide helps guests experience their own Na’vi rite of passage."

Let me use it in a sentence:
Oeru syaw, huh. Oeru syaw, what. Oeru syaw, Slim Shady

Hah, I accidentally resurrected the old thread. Here's some information on Pandora.

"Imagineer Joe Rohde, who sports a tribal-style earring that weighs down his left ear, speaks eloquently about the pros and cons of MyMagic+. We meet over a model of Avatar Land, the movie-inspired Disney World extension set to open in 2017. He tells me the Imagineers are trying to hit that sweet spot where the technology stays “subconscious,” because he doesn’t want to see “switching behavior”—he waves his wrist around in front of his face—“in between the human and the experience.”

I ask where MyMagic+ will influence Avatar Land, and Rohde turns my attention to the model, which is the size of three Ping-Pong tables. He swirls his finger around a tiny section. This little spot is where MyMagic+ will be put to use, in “the most intensive, interactive moments.” What about the area’s two big attractions? “Less so,” he adds.

What excites the Imagineers about Avatar Land? The robotics prototypes they’ve built, which they think represent the next generation of animatronics. MyMagic+ is just a tool that Imagineers tell me they don’t want to force on visitors. “We don’t want to say, ‘Hey, guest, go around and tap with your MagicBand to cause something magical to happen,’ ” Vaughn says. “We never want to do it just because we can.”"

Hey there! Yes, I got to spend time with Joe over the Avatar models. I would say what struck me most are not just the new-age animatronics -- which are pretty mind blowing -- but more so the level of thought Joe and his team are putting into EVERY detail of Avatar Land. I mean, when we were looking at the model, he wasn't just referring to specific attractions, but audio cues, how certain parts of Avatar Land respond to other parts, etc. The whole thing is seemingly designed to be a living, breathing organism, and I'm sure Joe barely scratched the surface on what he has planned. Very fascinating dude.

Thanks for this post.
It's informative, and reading Joe's words - I'm happy to hear the way the bands will work with the land.

Does anyone have insight into when the Pandora attractions will be added to FP+? I make my selections for my June trip in just a couple of weeks. Also, does anyone have information on how the attractions could be tiered?
