AVATAR land - the specifics

They just showed a preview for their segment coming up on GMA. They showed a woman wearing what looked to be the 3D glasses that will be worn on FoP. They looked a little different than most 3D glasses. Based on just seeing this alone I believe we will have a great idea of what some of the hidden parts unseen to us so far will look like in the land. Seems like they are really wanting to show it all off while they have the chance to nationally promote it.

Speechless is what I wanted to hear. Walt Disney World hasn't left anyone speechless because of an amazing attraction in a long time. There are going to be some domestic fans that have no idea what Disney is capable of until they ride it.

Finally two 21st Century attractions.

They have at least one theatre functional. It looks like they're in pretty good shape.

This also goes back to what I said before. Some of the biggest benefactors of this project are going to be Cameron and the other filmmakers.

Food looks weird.

She seemed impressed, and not in a marketing sort of way. That's a good sign.

Hmm. I wonder if the Banshee is augmented reality . . . looks like you are "inhabiting an avatar" much like the film.
Looks awesome!

I agree. I have spent the last 5 years defending this concept and this land in DAK. The more I see I just have simply run out of words to describe it anymore.

The one thing that occurred to me about the FoP ride. I remember when I first heard hints that you won't actually be riding on a banshee, I was disappointed. After hearing about the concept and theme behind Pandora, as well as the message regarding conservation (personal call to action) and the respect that Rohde obviously has for wildlife in general, it would be pretty ironic to go to a "travel agency" that allows you to take advantage of the natural wildlife of the Pandora moon. Here, they let you experience riding a banshee through the use of technology presented in the movie. This way you get a first-hand experience without actually disturbing the natural world around you. A.C.E. is not running a banshee rodeo.

A little over two months now...

The things that stand out to me so far...

The waterfalls break any sense of forced perspective with the centerpiece. The speed of the water and scale completely detract from the idea of distance
The lack of 'density' in the backdrop in the land. The canopy is way too open to be any sense of in a jungle.
The banshee looks almost like being on a bench with the people next to you? Hrmm.. I know its not a bench seat, but was hoping for more gapping there
The food looked attractive
Have high hopes for the boat ride still.. but curious what the plot line will be.

It's reminding me of Universal Studios a bit.. enough to be 'from the movie' but not enough to be immersive and suspend disbelief.

Those glasses don't seem to be normal 3D. Can anyone confirm augmented reality?

Why not? They look like lenses with just extra wide blinder edges. The blinders could be to help force the field of view and light leak.

There is zero chance of any sort of glasses with projection in them. You could get AR from cameras tracking you, but nothing in your own glasses.

I love water scenery and wish they would do more of it, however at these heights I'm wondering if they turn those off on windy days?

Agreed they shouldn't have done this at all without solving the
water speed/scale problem and forcing the perspective of the water.
Maybe they are hoping that people won't look up much.

Reminds me of the opposite of Universal, where I felt that it was all movie rides, and little immersion.
Aside from Potter, but Potter is one thing.
AK alone is immersive land after immersive land, with rides in those lands.
