AVATAR land construction progress

The more I see about the new land, the more I get excited. It's been years honestly since I saw Avatar.

I didn't even see it when it first aired. I saw it a couple of years later at a special event I won tickets to. The local cinema was touting new digital projection... Stunning. But I remember it was a good movie.

It's funny how years later we look back at old movies and go, my god, they were bloody amazing. T2.

I don't even need to state Terminator 2. It's that iconic. That memorable. You mention Avatar.. People start to remember.

It will take time but it looks like Disney made the right call. Now let's allow the workers to finish up and get it open. I want to see my AK at night.
Totally agree. I watched it again about a month ago and while I think the story is a little meh, the world Cameron created is stunning. This will make for a great theme park experience.

And we're back to "who cares about Avatar?"

If the box office receipts weren't a clue, then read this:

Audiences experience 'Avatar' blues
We are visiting in June and I asked my (9 and 11 year old) nephews if they were excited about it and the younger ones exact words were, "who cares about Avatar", lol. I told him that even if he did not like the movie it would still be a fun land to explore. His response was, "they could have just built a fun land without using a crappy movie". I was cracking up. I think young children will have a bit of difficulty identifying with the actual IP since they are too young to remember the movie, but they will no doubt enjoy Pandora for what it is.

really because my 13 year old is counting down the days on her calendar

That's wonderful, but it certainly stems from having a father who is excited about the project. I don't know many people who are aware that an Avatar Land is even coming, or if so, who care. Can't speak for the whole population, but I'd assume a very very small percentage know and care about the land.

In all fairness, not many people I know knew or cared about WWHoP until they started hearing great things through word of mouth, so hopefully Pandora will travel the same path.

my point was its all anecdotal

There's no "construction" left in the area. Everything is done. It's all just testing and adjustments now and training employees in the new area that remains. So technically this thread is irrelevant now.

Except most of the ground throughout the entire land still not being done. But that's something that can be done rather quickly despite the weirdness. There's a reason most of the released material hasn't shown anything below knee height especially at night. ;)

And that's the easier stuff to complete too. Not so much considered "construction" as it is paving and landscaping. At Disney those things are frequently completed overnight.

Yeah, I said that in a post that got deleted. I have no problem with people going off on a tangent discussion now since the construction is pretty much done. I just find it ironic that people were so bent out of shape about an off topic discussion that you and I had that they reported it to the mods and had it removed but then a day later we go back to discussions around who's cousin and nephews want to see Avatar Land.

Right? And how many years have other threads been going about things that are long gone? ("Save the Adventurers Club" and "I got into an altercation at F&G festival" come to mind)

I agree. I can't wait to see the land at all of its glory during the evening hours. I'm sure there are areas that need attention and the videos Cameron did last week made sure we didn't see any crew members working.
Not sure if it was just the shooting schedule or intentional but with all the PR in town they didn't show us much of the land at night. I wonder if they are holding back on that (like the main ride itself) for some even more grand reveal closer to the grand opening or if they just aren't done adjusting the lighting and effects for the night yet. Could be both reasons.

Universal's building binge of new hotels and the water park is clearly an attempt to become a destination vacation as opposed to an add on. You can turn Universal and some side trips in FL into a week long vacation stay. Add Nintendo land, that should start soon. Universal is going all out and hasn't had a failure yet. They do need to lay off the screen attractions. Enough is enough of those unless they plan on knock some down like Shrek.
Well sounds like the Jimmy Fallon Ride is a bit underwhelming from reviews, but when I took my first trip in February I was surprised at how much we enjoyed ourselves there. I can't see us staying more than 3 to 4 nights tops, but that is still a large chuck of time.
