AVATAR land construction progress

Have you seen the pictures and videos? It looks pretty darn cool during the day too.

Animal Kingdom is overall very pretty at night, but I wouldn't call the park night centric. Until this latest round of projects the park has barely been open at night most of the year. For a long while it was closing much earlier than the other parks (especially in the winter). There was no night show and until recently no night Safari. I think with ROL, Pandora, the night Safari and other nighttime activity Disney is making a very good attempt at making the park a full day experience.

My opinion ofcourse is since night hours became normal and park wide upgrades really did wonders.

I misunderstood what you said, I thought you meant before the nighttime additions.
Heat during the day is the biggest issue I have with the place too! Still wonderful but sweaty!
It is a hot park. I guess that adds to the authenticity for Africa, but I'd take a few more spots to cool down.

Does anyone know if there is even a storyline to the river journey ride? Even joe rohde just refers to it as a lyrical beautiful journey through pandora. So are you just floating through looking at pretty stuff? That might be ok during the day but at night when you can see the whole land already lit up I don't know how much more exciting it could be. Wondering if I should expect living with the land or pirates of Caribbean?

Cameron has said the the end scene at least is something never seen before in a ride.

It's loose, but so is Pirates. Disneyland's PoTC without the harbour scene or town scenes (which I realize is practically all of the Florida version).

Living with the land doesn't really have sets.

What he is referring to is the Na'vi River Journey Shaman Animatronic. In an article Disney posted, it says the Shaman will greet you at the end, and based on the video we've seen, that Animatronic blows away every other one out there, that's including 7DMT and Frozen (which are great, but not close to Pandora).

They mention the song of the Shaman.
I'm wondering if the duration of the ride - which is relatively short - coincides with the length of this song?
I'm guessing that we hear her song and narration during the ride, then see her at the end as the big reveal.

Living with the Land has some dang good sets. The rainforest, desert, and prairie are dimensional and I'd put them on the same or higher level compared to, say, GMR's sets.

I'm gonna quibble about the desert set. We're told that it's incredibly full of life... and we see no life at all.

I betcha people will call it Avatar Land. Because it's what the general public knows. Not everyone remembers the name of planet from the movie.
I told DH that they announced Pandora would be opening the week before our visit. He just said "what's that?". Umm the new part Disney has been building about the Avatar movie? Again "what the movie with the blue guys? Never even watched the whole thing". That seems to pretty much sum up quite a few peoples thoughts that are planning trips. Will it be cool looking? Hopefully, but knowledge of the movie has been a bit forgotten. Though I've notice its been on TV several time this week.

So I have noticed that Avatar twitter accounts have been more active,
and of course Disney has started one. I'll bet that it will be replayed a bunch
on ABC and/or ABC affiliates and other Disney media starting pretty quick.

Disney has such a huge media reach and so many different places to promote, I'm willing
to bet we'll be seeing a lot of it in the weeks and months to come.

I wouldn't even bet against some sort of news story. Something like "scientists speculate
distant star may have "Pandora-like" moons". That sort of fluff news story that includes
some well-timed reference to the film. I remember when "The Martian" came out, all of a sudden
there was a flurry of news about Mars. I'm not calling it 'fake news' but there certainly is 'promo news'
within these media giants . . .

It is of course no accident that the Cirque du Soleil TORUK is on tour, either . . .

So, yeah, a lot of people are going to hear, or re-hear about the film in the next couple months--I think.
