AVATAR land construction progress

An Energy Plant in building maintenance terms usually refers to a building that provides child water for air conditioning, steam for heating and other energy sources such as compress air, for a industrial plant area, office complex, or in this case a park. I am guessing this is to provide heating and air conditioning for the new areas under construction. I read somewhere that Walt Disney World is not adding any additional electrical generation capability to what they have now. They find in cheaper to purchase than provide their own.

I agree completely. Very good chance this is a chiller plant. If it were an electrical substation, they'd call it that. They're certainly not building any more power plants.

I am wondering if the current electrical supply to the park isn't sufficient to support what they plan to build. Compared to it's size I would bet the current park has pretty modest energy requirements.
I would say this is because compared to the other parks, a majority of DAK is outdoors. That takes a lot less power to operate (no AC).

This sounds reasonable to me. Based on the address in the permit I would assume this is going to go in the southern most portion of the land behind Rainforest. There has been discussion in the past about how much space there would be between Avatar and Africa, so having this to the south would push the actual on stage portions of the expansion further north and closer to Africa.

well if it is a functional plant services... they could in fact leave it onstage? i mean it is not like Pandora has a fission micropile, or that newfangled ZPM or even a Naquida Generator...

It is going to take a lot of energy to make those mountains float. They will need super-conducting magnets and liquid nitrogen to keep them cold.

That might work for you, but continues Avatar construction would be considered bad news to a lot of people around here. ;)
True, but Animal Kindom's central attraction from day 1 was a character based attraction. Franchises in Epcot make me cringe, but Avatar is welcome by a lot of us. It's going to be the last thing I see from Disney that could redeem them right now...and help me get my mind off Norway... X3 lol

I also like the Avatar idea, but I think we are in the minority here.

I'll join the club.

Can we have t-shirts?! ;)

Most of the online members have probably noticed that I have been praising the potential for what this expansion could possibly be like. I have to say that with everything currently going on and rumored to be happening - including Star Wars at DHS - I feel that this addition is the dark horse in the race.

I think that a lot of people dismiss this concept because they did not like the movie, or, appeared bothered by the fact that the movie pulled in as much as it did aside from a mediocre and quite honestly somewhat borrowed and tired plotline (e.g., see Dances With Wolves).

For me personally, the movie was not oscar worthy from a story or character development standpoint. But the moview itself was beautiful; a visual masterpiece IMHO. And that is the essence of this expansion - the wonder of that world. And I think that Joe Rhode and the Imagineers (whether they are in love with this project or not) are going to shoot for the moon with both the theming and ride/attraction experiences in Pandora.

Right now this expansion is what I am most excited about.

And you can count me in for one of those T-shirts! :)

I'm also in favor of the project, especially if it is done with the same type of details you see elsewhere in DAK (e.g. the environments of Africa and Asia).

Also, I think many people are apathetic towards the idea of Pandora as a theme, but would be more than happy with a well done land of that environment. Just that those sorts of folks don't tend to respond the these topics because they don't have strong feelings about them.

Put me down for one of the t-shirts.
