Yup, it's not only a Disney thing either. I drive past one in Louisiana every day that looks exactly the same. In an area with a lot of foliage, companies dress em up to make them fit in better. Honestly, it makes them stand out like a sore thumb to me lol
Where in Louisiana? That's where I'm from too. Oh and Go Tigers! lol

It does appear that it could be.

So is there water in the center trough where the wheel mechanism runs? If not it seems like that would throw off the whole boat ride experience if you can easily see you're not entirely in water, but at the same time, idk if those mechanisms can work under water.
I hope if it is this ride system that the boats are able to keep a distance like in this diagram. It would look like the usual pile up at the end of some of the boat rides sometimes if they are back to back.

Yes, it would be under water. In this image 108 is the water level. Since this is more like an omnimover the boats are not free floating so they can prevent that pile up problem.

I wonder if they'll eventually replace the track on rides like Pirates and IASW to this updated track system (and of course you'd think this would be a perfect opportunity for Frozen, but apparently not).

Question with Pirates would be can the omnimover ride system go down a drop. If not then that's an easy answer for Pirates.

I don't see how the ride system in the patent could go down a drop with any kind of speed. Of course we don't know for sure if this is the patent that they are using for Shanghai.

I'm thinking now, having seen that photo of the Jungle Cruise style trough, that there will be no drops. A drop means a lift (whether on stage or off), and I can't imagine how a lift would work if there are navigational components hanging off the bottom of the boat.

Jungle cruise doesn't have a trough For guidence. It's a rail unless the other version is different from Disneylands..

I do agree though that it doesn't look to have a drop.

I get the feeling now having seen Joe Rohde talk about this at D23 that it is going to be a more relaxing, musical experience into the dark, glowing Pandora forest. There already is a water ride with a drop at this park and it does a great job of getting people drenched. A ride built more like The Jungle Cruise - meaning with no drops, but a lot to see - is more along the lines of what I expect this ride to be like. The park needs one like this.

I gotta say, there's a part of me that sees all that steel and concrete hanging up in the air,
and thinks . . . . thousands of pounds, hundreds of thousands of pounds, millions of pounds . . . of hard steel. Of
hard concrete. Above my head. Cantilevered out. Hanging there. Up there.

And I go . . . ack.

Go structural engineers! Go imagineers! Check and double check your weight bearing measurements.
Go welders! Laser scan your welds!
Go bolt manufacturers! Quality control is key! Make a great product!
Concrete folks! Check adhesion and crumbling properties!

Yay, team!

Ack.
