AVATAR land coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom

I was able to visit the animal kingdom when it was in preview before it opened, that being said, I was able to ride the rather lack luster boat ride, back when the river was covered in nasty green muck, the vultures hadn't swarmed the park, and when the igaundon was under the bridge and aninmated along with the Dragon Cave that shot fire out( we almost got roasted from bad boat driving no joke) . I wonder if this will allow them to expand the river and bring back the boats, clean up the waters, and make a boat ride to avatar with animtronics?

And you have no idea about what attractions they are going to install. No one on these boards does. How about you wait, see some concept art and learn about what really is gonna be in this land before you go proclaiming its the worst thing ever?

I don't even care if it's the greatest attraction ever to be attracted, you're missing the point that it would be like putting all of Marvel Superhero Island into Animal Kingdom. Yeah i love the Spiderman ride but do i think it fits in with DAK? no.

Those imagined animals were just flashy plot devices, that wasn't the point of the movie. The point of the movie were the people and the trees. And the kingdom of beauty and wonder were referring to the ANIMALS of the Animal kingdom, not the land.

So freakin true man. I really have such a bad feeling about this. This is one giant blue taint to an amazing park.

You say that, but Beastly Kingdom never had any fully developed block-buster attractions. Just internet hype of "coasters" and dragons. Not saying Beastly Kingdom couldn't have been good, but so little was ever officially released on the subject, it seems impossible to say it could be preferred.

Beastly... Good for it's time but not as epic or as thorough as Potterland, let alone Avland. Avland... Can I take the credit for that??? :D
Even so, I think I'd still prefer BK. Avatar just doesn't seem "Disney-like" enough to me in the same way that Star Wars and Indiana Jones are. Those latter two series are fun. Avatar struck me as too dark and preachy to be something that I think could fit in with Disney.

Don't misunderstand. I'm not writing it off completely. The production values of this land will probably incredibly high, and I hope all that effort translates into something I'll enjoy.

I know that DAK was in line for a lot of love (or dollars at least) but I don't know how much of that will be devoted to the Avatar project. My guess is that Avatar will either be bigger than people are expecting, or it won't be the only thing we get.

So Tim, will EPCOT be left out in the cold or will it get some love too?

Anyway, I saw Avatar. And feel like most on here.

It was a visually stunning move. But not really in love with it.

But.. the possibilities are Endless! So many things they can do.

Lee: does this kill Tron movies and / or attractions?

I really didn't like this movie, but when i think about the possibilities that this universe has in disney world it makes me love the idea of avatar being in disney world. I like most of you would have never guessed that avatar would be the potter swatter. I didn't think that the potter swatter would be in animal kingdom. And to all of you who didn't like the movie and now think that this is the stupid on disneys part, then your just kidding your selfs. They are building a land based on the highest grossing movie ever. And this opens disney up to possibilities of other james cameron movies in disney, more specifically hollywood studios. I would love something to do with titanic or the terminator in dhs.

Well like I said before i didn't like the movie, heck i thought it was pretty bad, but it had great visuals that could be reworked to fit animal kingdom perfectly.

The boats are viewed as a capacity problem, and would never be put in place as a primary way of getting into a new land. It would cause operational chaos.

I also just want to say I think a land based on Avatar is many, many times more interesting than one based on Cars...
Strongly disagree...if this big announcement was for a Cars Land at DHS, I wouldn't be so uneasy right now. I'd be really happy because I think it's a more promising concept.

BEST. DAY. EVER. Been sick all day and this is great news! :D
Some of the things that excite me most:
-chance to close down EE for a long, relaxing, much needed refurbishment!
-being able to see completely new ride systems, etc.
-P-E-R-F-E-C-T potter swatter, I agree with other posters that HP the series is DONE, but Avatar has many new possibilities! :D

And to all of y'all who say that it doesn't fit with AK, REALLY?!?! The whole story is overcoming colonization to keep a natural planet's beauty.

I know it might sound stupid, but just spit-balling, why not turn the train to Conservation Station into a "ship" to Pandora, and replace Conservation Station or put it somewhere else, people don't want that train ride to go to CS, but they WILL for Avatar. If that's not possible, just make it similar. Close over the track, make it look like space (with the new tech. we're talking about) and take people over. And also make sure to take away visual distractions in the skyline so you get the sense of being "transported." Also, I think it would be pretty amazing to have the land glow with "life" at night, like in the movie...

Indiana Jones is a movie involving nazis where they find an artifact that causes their faces to violently melt away.

You were saying?

yeah it's gonna be amazing, but put it somewhere else.

I mean, I actually do agree that, on the face of it, it would be a better fit for the Studios. But bygones and all that; it is what it is. And I'm excited to see what Disney will make of it, regardless of where it lands.

For those of you complaining about the "Disneyness" of Avatar..

Look at Indiana Jones and Star Wars.

Those seem to do pretty well without being Disney movies.
^I agree. But the #1 rule of the interwebs is to complain, and complain religiously.

-Complain when we do not get an announcement.
-Complain when we get a BIG announcement like this.
-Just complain. It's what the keyboards are for. www stands for whine, whine, whine. You get it?

But I am totally with you on this. Avatar is going to be amazing. The beauty of the film will certainly be a field day for WDI, and it's theme will... oops, I'm starting to sound too positive for the boards. Better stop before being labeled a troll.

Just to offer a counterpoint...

For all those saying this belongs in EPCOT, you're saying you want to see a massive, dense rainforest taking over a section of EPCOT?

This is an outdoor land, not an indoor land. If you want to make it indoors, your transition has to be through extremely thick vegetation and an exotic natural setting. Where would you like to transition to that from in EPCOT? The message is right, the environment is right, and the environment is filled with modern fantasy animals.

Different strokes. I just thought Cars was, bar none, Pixar's worst film ever made...until Cars 2. It's not surprising to be that Avatar did better financially, and was received much better critically.

I actually think Avatar is very Disney-like. It's a nice enough family friendly adventure, I just think it would fit in better in EPCOT, or even Tomorrowland, just because of the very distinct Science Fiction framing to the movie.

how do you even know that it's going to be a massive, dense rainforest?

Did you actually watch the movie? It started on a spaceship that went to another planet. If anything the land would look incredible if it were made indoors.
