AVATAR land coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom

After seeing Mysterious Island, and knowing that was the original idea for the former Camp Minnie Mickey area, expectations have to be high. Having said that, as much as I loved Mysterious Island, there is no reason that Pandora: The World of Avatar can't be better.

If this is a home run, Animal Kingdom could be one more major addition away from being the most immersive theme park in the world.

As long as that addition falls on Dino-Rama like a house from Kansas.

I was in Paris for four nights last week, so I could really soak up everything in both parks. I will tell you that the Ratatouille mini-land and the ride plus the restaurant were on par with Hogsmeade albeit much smaller, the immersive feeling and the ride. If Pandora would be that size it would still be spectacular, but to know that it is going to at least be as good as Ratatouille on an immersion level, but on a significantly larger scale says a lot. Who knows how good the rides will be, but based on Ratatouille I can't even imagine how incredible this land is going to be.
Crush's Coaster is also another example. It was able to transition from dark ride scene to dark ride scene flawlessly, and then top it off in the coaster part. I think Pandora is going to at least have super immersive theming, and great rides. The question should be more like will the rides be spectacular never seen before or just
'another epic' great immersively themed land like Potter or the Ratatouille mini-land.

Pandora has an opportunity to step up the game of something that is already with ultra high standards and the execution for these lands: Both Wwohp, Cars Land, and even the Rataouille mini-land have been done majestically. We all know it is at least going to be that good, but will it be able to make the bar even higher by a small margin or a massive one? I think the latter will be true, but only time will tell.

I don't have a lot of confidence in Disney live action movies.
Lol...The Jungle Book was spectacular. As well as Captain America: Civil War, and many of the Touchstone pictures movies. What about Saving Mr. Banks?
It's mainly new franchises by Disney that we have to worry about.
Remakes, like Captain Nemo, have a better track record, so I think that it will be more on par with the remakes batting average over a new franchise starter.

Captain America doesn't really count. That's Marvel Studios, who is given a good deal of freedom in their productions, from what I understand. It would be a bit like saying that Walt Disney Animation Studios is doing well, because look at films like Up, Toy Story 3, and Inside Out.

I'm a big fan of the Marvel movies, but in terms of recent tent poll movies it's been Pirates and remakes. I don't think Disney has surpassed the original Pirates movie with any live action movie (non Marvel, or Force Awakens) released since.

All I have to say is look out for Queen of Katwe (starring Lupita N'Yongo) later this year. Early Oscar contender according to most. And it's an ESPN Film (their first theatrical release).

The Curse of The Black Pearl was spectacular, so personally I think the only one that's come close is the Jungle Book (from a franchise starter/remake standpoint). I definitely agree though, other Studios like Fox have had a much better live action track record (excluding Marvel, Lucasfilms, Pixar, and Walt Disney Animation of course). But I think I'm the future especially we'll see an uptick in quality on Disney films. All studios have critical duds even from great franchises like X-Men Apocalypse & Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Probably will do well critically, but unless it gets a bunch of publicity/marketing probably won't open to much. It's a shame when good movies open rather small while movies like Batman Vs. Superman open huge just because it has three famous characters. Anyway getting back on track here, that's a good example, but as @Matt_Black mentioned it's not exactly Disney Live Action as while still sharing profits is still a different part of the company.

So what do you guys think... Does Avatar have a place in Animal Kingdom? Personally I think it'll fit wonderfully, and will truly be WDW's Cars Land (but even better).
I think it will be a jaw dropping spectacular land. I absolutely HATE it being in DAK. This has the intellectual depth of a kiddie pool. Call me when Disney Nature makes a sci fi movie about alien cultures.

I somewhat understand the disapproval of AVATAR in Animal Kingdom...Most of it, I think, is out of indifference for the film itself...But every realistic park has its 'Fantasyland' area if you will... Pandora is a perfect world of allegory for what an ideal symbiosis between man and beast can be. This sort of symbiosis is in the very mission of Animal Kingdom itself. When you add the fact that Walt was obsessed with making the impossible possible: ...floating mountains, bioluminescent rainforests, soaring on the backs of dragons; but in a story of conservation: ...honestly, what other park would this story belong in? If it was built in Hollywood Studios, it would be watered down to a land dedicated to special effects. But this land is about giving humans an experience that will change the way they look at the natural world. And that means everything.
