AVATAR land coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom

Then don't take my response as flaming you. But based on your logic, I'm going to assume you've never set foot in DHS.

I'm not a big fan of Star Wars, but I like Star Tours. I've seen a few Twilght Zone episodes, but that doesn't diminish my enjoyment of Tower of Terror. Muppetvision is always fun.

I've never seen Avatar, and I don't plan to anytime soon. But if there's a great ride or attraction experience, I'm going to check it out.

I just don't understand this thought process at all. And in my mind, the problem's on your end, not Disney's.

I live in Florida, thank you for your assumption that I've never been to DHS. Do you honestly think I would even be posting in this forum if I have never been to all 4 parks? Did I mention any other franchises? No.

I only said that I was disappointed that Disney and WDI couldn't come up with an original idea.

Just my two cents...

Loved Avatar. With it's conservation theme and breathtaking visuals, I think the Avatar universe is a great DAK addition. Can't wait for this to open. Harry who? Can't wait to see some concept art, and get my picture made with Neytiri and Jake Sully. SHOCKED that this was kept quiet!

Well people hate it because it isn't Disney. Lots want anything in the park to be purebred.

I would think people would be willing to overlook that for the fact that a park that hasn't seen a lot of improvements is about to get something new.

Conservation Station was borne of Disney

So is Chester and Hester's Sideshow.

and so were the boats to nowhere, which were my introduction to the new park back in 1999.

I'll take Avatar, please. :D Even if all future sequels bomb (which they won't), the one is better than all three of those.

MGM Studios wasn't exactly Disney related either. EPCOT eventually became something else all together. The only park that really feels Disney is Magic Kingdom.

Not saying I want everything to be Disney-only. I'm fine with them adding Avatar in because at this point, I'll take anything if it means it'll make DAK a full day park.

NO WAY these movies will come anywhere close to bombing. Isn't there going to be a Cartoon TV show too? If so that would widen the audience and solve whatever generation gap there might be (I don't see one).

Then you missed my point or I missed the point of your position.

You seem to be upset that Disney is bringing Avatar into AK because it shows a lack of an original idea.

If that's the case, you shouldn't like major attractions in DHS, because Star Tours, ToT, Muppetvision, and Indiana Jones all came from properties outside of Disney.

If that's NOT the case, maybe you should wait and see what this brings to Animal Kingdom.

I wonder how much of DAK will be consumed because of this announcement? We all know from other park expansions and announcements that when new lands come around designs usually include retheming existing attractions or removing existing lands to make way for the new land.

Let's speculate...What land or attractions will be redone? I'd love to see an entire new land added to DAK, but I'm sure the financials of a totally new land with 2 or 3 new attractions is not feasible. I'm holding out judement until I see what is sacrificed to make way for this concept.

Reading the Businesswire post this piece of information is the key to why this deal is much bigger than just an AK expansion

The agreement announced today gives The Walt Disney Company (NYSEIS) exclusive global theme park rights to the AVATAR franchise and provides for additional AVATAR themed lands at other Disney parks. The other locations will be determined by Disney and its international theme park partners. James Cameron, Jon Landau and their Lightstorm Entertainment group will serve as creative consultants on the projects and will partner with Walt Disney Imagineering in the design and development of the AVATAR themed lands.

Avatar was not just a U.S. success, it was a global success, with Japan doing a 186 million dollars U.S. business. France and the U.K. combined did over 300 million dollars U.S., China another 182 million.

In one fell swoop Disney has bought a property that has huge appeal in all countries Disney currently has or is planning to have a park, and more importantly has denied that property to Universal for their use at any of their theme parks.

Wow 12 pages already! I just recently watched Avatar out of shear boredom and it was somewhat good. I am excited about the news and cannot wait for something new to come to AK. Like previous posters said I have never even seen Star Wars but I still enjoy Star Tours. I however will never set foot on ToT, lol.

Exactly. Disney makes headlines.

How many people go to universal right now just because of Potter?

How many will go to WDW that normally wouldn't just because Pandora is there?

No question, it is a massive deal for the future of DAK. With two movies in development, it is a great to get onboard.
