How's everyone feeling with motion sickness? My dad could not do Star Tours or the old Body Wars and Back to the Future, but Soarin is his favorite ride.

I have seen everyone say that it doesn't cause motion sickness but it made me feel queasy. It's gotten better the more I ride it but I definitely think people will still succumb to motion sickness if they are easily prone to it.

I agree that the glasses will probably need addressed. They are slipping and the ride just opened so it is likely that over time they will get worse. They also seemed short on them so maybe they bought a smaller number and could easily replace the lot. Hope they figure that out but it wasn't too bad and I was the only one in the family to mention it and my wife and daughter are tiny humans....lol

We have FP+ for the FoP but a couple of people in our party didn't get them so if the park closes at 10:00 what is the latest time they can get in line to wait. Example If at 8:00 the wait is 120 minutes is the line closed, not let anyone else in line?

Queues are open until the very second the park closes. Any guest in line before park closing will be allowed to ride.

I know that is supposed to be true. But they were closing FoP standby early like 9ish when the park closed at 11, and then at 11 the Extra Magic Hours folks could join the line after the day guests standby line was complete. (although they did a confusing Stand-by stand-by line from 10pm until 11pm)

They were doing this Mem Day week, but not sure if they are still doing it.

Dang, seriously?

I hope they're not still doing that, since that's against park ops policy. I don't imagine that went over well with guests.

As of last night, they're closing Flight of Passage between a half hour to an hour before closing.

It was a mess. But I got the benefit of waiting only an hour for FoP for EMH vs. the 2+ hours for those that got in line before it closed.

Fair enough, I wouldn't be mad either!

Still not a good practice all around, though lol. Leaving queues open is part of Courtesy, and I've not really heard of any exceptions being made to the ops policy, regardless of how long the queue was. Not fair at all to day guests. I left the company a few months ago, though... sooooo maybe things are changing.

There were doing something similar at MK with Standby lines before the start of night EMH as well. It seemed like a new practice since no one really seemed to know what to do. So maybe a new practice...or maybe just a random whim by someone that just didn't work out.

It's because EMH are always at Animal Kingdom right now. If they keep it open right until close, resort guests will be in line until 3 AM. They've already made an improvement: opening weekend the whole land had to close two hours early, and they shut down the Flight of Passage line half an hour into EMH for resort guests. Once the lines die down a bit and EMH starts cycling between parks again, things will go back to normal. IIRC River Journey didn't close early last night.

Has anyone figured out how they do the Avatar in the tank effect in the queue? I'm guessing it's not as straightforward as it looks :)

I rode it several times on my trip. Easily the best ride at WDW! During my first ride, I was saying, "OMG this is awesome" during the ride. As well as others that were riding with me. I have never said that and been as amazed on a ride at WDW ever. I love Soarin', but I don't think you can compare the 2 as far as ride mechanics. It is just that there are no other rides that are like it so Soarin' is the "closest". IMO I did feel a bit queasy after the rides due to the motion. But it is worth it. They do have to shut down from time to time because someone throws up. We had to wait once and the cast member says that it is not the motion sickness people that have issues but the ones that have been drinking beer all day. We had no problems with the restraints, and although I am not a huge person, neither am I a skinny Minnie. My only criticism is that the wind effect is too much. I had to put my hand over the vent to keep it from blowing my contacts out of my eyes.
