Avatar construction aerial updates

If I am understanding correctly, it loads on different levels and each separate level has separate arms, versus the connected arm of the Soarin' system.

But what possibilities does that open up to make this ride different than Soarin?[/QUOTE]
The screen is basically right outside of the loading areas, so you don't really lift up into it, but are completely surrounded by it from the get go.

seems like north of the E/C ticket building would be all mountains
gwgb.jpg

Yes, that is what I believe. The mountains will hide the huge show building and house much of the E ticket queue.

From the photos, the larger structures like the simulator and boat rides, as well as the foundations for the floating mountains, are fairly obvious. I am trying to figure out where there is any evidence of an eating establishment or any other buildings for merch and whatnot. I am wondering how much of that will even be here due to the nature of this project. I'll bet that one of the shops/buildings to visit will have something similar to Memento Mori where you can have a photo taken that renders what your avatar equivalent would look like. I would think that they would sell nicely.

As far as shops and smaller edifices, would you need pilings for those types of structures or are they not needed for structures under a certain size/dimension/weight? Would paved walkways also need this type of support structure in the ground?

Given how much space they'll need to build the rides and mountain, they may wait and build the minor buildings later.

As wet as that land is, the small buildings will likely need some piers too. They're probably in already, and could be buried until later.

Paths wI'll just need good compaction under them.

Also . . . 4K, or maybe even 8K, 3D, High Frame Rate projection will make it seem like
you are there.

I am tremendously excited by this new technology. I just got a 4K computer monitor, and looking
at test footage on it is a bit dizzying. So crisp and clear, it's almost like looking out a window.
I can imagine this sort of thing projected in high frame rate will be an entirely new sort of
sensory experience, that will make Soarin' look like an old flickering black and white movie.

Seriously, don't underestimate the projection technology as a total game-changer in the
simulation industry.

Just my 2 cents, but that's what I think the 'big deal' will be, about this ride.

Plus the increased movement of the chairs, of course.

I think, instead of Soarin' 2.0, it'll be more like Soarin' 10.0.

At least, I hope.

Looking at the model, I assume that the people board their seats and then the entire assembly moves forward towards the screen.

Again, I am taking this back to the thought behind modeling this after the movie. Following the ascent up into the floating mountains, Jake battles one of the ikran (or banshee) to join with it (ewwww) and make 'the bond' - that's what the hipsters call it on Pandora these days. Anyway, once that happens, the rider is to immediately take the first flight. In that scene, Jake and his banshee dive over the cliff and plummet straight down the mountain cliff face, well above the moon's surface. Combining that with the design of the simulator, that could be recreated almost perfectly. Once everyone is strapped in, the rows of people lunge towards the screen, simulating the banshee running towards the cliff edge and immediately going into a dive down the face of a floating mountain.

Again, as I stated in an earlier post, the queue for this could be amazingly detailed to appear like you are ascending a floating mountain. You then board the ride vehicle - your own banshee. The vehicle then thrusts forward and you are now diving down the face of a floating mountain.

I really think that this ride has the opportunity to simply blow Soarin' in EPCOT out of the water. A lot will depend on the extent to which it is themed. They could go all out like they have with the other rides in DAK and this entire experience will be mind-blowing as you fly on the back of a banshee through the Floating Mountains and down into the forests of Pandora. To me Soarin' Over California is a nice easy flight. This one most definitely will not be.

What would make it even better is if they had multiple movies divided among the 4 theaters, much like Star Tours in DHS. One could even be dedicated to an extreme experience, probably more to the liking of Cameron since he didn't get his white-knuckle coaster ride (yet ;)).

4K is so yesterday.

High frame rates are the norm, not the exception, in parks. EPCOT center set that prescedent in 1982.

Neither is likely to float the joe publics boat.

I'm not doubting you. You know this stuff like nobody else!
Which attractions feature 4K HFR?

You do have to remember that 4k on a screen that big isn't anything special. At your local Regal cinemas Movie theater they use 4k projectors for all the movies. Now when u watch a 4k desktop monitor its impressive cause of the small form factor. All those pixels in a small 24 inch monitor. I would would to see something little higher, Especially since were talking about James Cameron being part of this....

I have a pretty good grasp of what this land will look like as you enter it. However, I haven't seen enough art (if available) to get a feel for how the land will look as one walks up to DAK's entrance. I'm guessing foreground trees will block the lower portion of the show building, and a stonework "cap" will hide the upper portion. Or... we could be stuck with looking at the equivalent of the back of E:E. Thoughts?

i hope those trees and the fact that the buildings will be further back than originally thought will keep sight lines reasonable

This whole project relies on incredible theming and they've disguised show buildings well previously in DAK, i.e. EE with the temple facade disguising the back show building, so Pandora should be no exception. But hey, we have years to see for sure.

I'm perfectly willing to admit that I know nothing lol. And the scale of the project is very large, so that could be a lot of it.

I'd be interested to see where Uni was in building Diagon Alley this far into the construction phase as they are fairly similar in land content. Much more similar than something like Transformers or Kong.

Something like this:
http://www.themeparkinsider.com/flume/201303/3422/

I couldn't find the date in which they had a similar groundstate to what Avatar had.....but 14 months before these, Jaws was still fully operational on the very same spot.
Jaws closed Jan 25 2012, these were taken towards the end of March 2013....and of course the land was fully open by July 2014!
