Avatar construction aerial updates

Not to mention the fact that both rides will most likely have a total ride time of 3 mins.;)

Most coaster, especially high speed ones do tend to be pretty short. I'm hoping the Soarin type flying ride is longer than 3 mins though. I think Soarin is about 5 mins but since this is the headliner, E-ticket for the land I'm hoping for an even longer ride.

If the leaked plans are accurate it will have 4 theaters which would allow for a decent length ride time without sacrificing capacity.

Yes. Good point. It has some promise to be pretty long then. Not Splash Mountain long, but not Mine Train either:)
Well thats good. My orignal post was kinda a joke, but this still puts me at ease!!

So for now the large area for the cancelled coaster will be a giant DVC sales booth with really tall, blue sales guys;)

I'm sure we already discussed this a gazillion times a year or more ago, but would the bike coaster thing even have fit in Avatarland? I would think 1 ride simulating flying on the dragon things would be enough. I'd prefer them to use the extra space for another family friendly, D-ticket level dark ride plus a large, indoor building available for walk through exhibit areas (think old school innoventions). I really think with the help of James Cameron they could fill the place up with some cool stuff. Between the 3 rides, the outdoor walk through areas and a large indoor space you could easily spend almost half a day just exploring if you take your time. The ride commandos will just breeze through and complain there isn't enough to do, but you can't please everyone:cool:

Yeah, if a third ride is added, I'd rather it be a family friendly dark ride than a coaster. Even if it is only a C- or D-ticket.

Yeah, I'm hoping that the Soarin' ride is like a 5-10 minute time and the boat ride is 8-15 minutes. One of the things that made classic Disney rides so great is that they have enough time to fully immerse you within the experience and a longer ride length helps considerable for that.

Here's a pretty good thread from back just before the plans leaked:

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/cameron-has-given-the-ok.854345/

At the time there was some speculation that the bigger plan would be 3 attractions including a walk through area, Soarin and the bike coaster. I don't think the boat ride was ever part of the original rumors until the plans were leaked. I think we are still getting some form of walk through outdoor area too with the current plans.

This may seem like a silly question but when this all opens, will that put more foot traffic to the back entrance to RFC? They have a fun little waiting area with a bar but I honestly don't think I've ever seen it open.

I was under the impression that RFC would close and be part of Avatar. Hm. Maybe I'm confusing my maps

Definitely not. There will be dining built as part of Pandora, though -- rumor is that it will be a flex setup like BOG where lunch is counter service and dinner is sit down. But Rainforest Cafe is not part of the Pandora footprint (next to it though). I don't think there will be a connection between RFC and Pandora, but I guess we'll see.

they re going to need more TS and CS restaurants....closing them would be a bad idea imho

Yep, as is, they might need more food places than what we will have, but we'll at least have one restaurant in Pandora plus the new quick serve being built in Africa. but if they have extended hours at DAK and more people eating meals there, it might quickly fill up the available services. We'll see what Rivers of Light does to guest behavior.

I think that was speculated once we found out the location was at the front of the park but before any concept art was released or ground cleared. Now that we can see its a pretty sizable piece of land cleared there's plenty of room for a unique restaurant too. Of course there is a part of me that still pictures them cutting corners and just painting the RFC animals blue and calling it a day.

Back when the blueprints came out there was some estimates done. Basically it was a capacity similar to Soarin' assuming an 8 minute cycle time.

I think if they had opted for a larger version of Avatar that Rainforest would have been removed or relocated to the other side of the entrance.

That is definitely possible. The Fantasyland expansion was about 7 months from when the construction wall went up, to when vertical construction was first spotted.
Exactly, and we are hitting almost exactly 6 months now. However, the only thing is that in Fantasyland in MK it is much easier to notice construction going on and see updates. In that secluded area of DAK, not so much, so it could be a month of verticle construction going on before we even realize it unless we see an areal update

Here is a picture from Orlando Theme Park News from 6/12 showing the pile drivers still at work. When vertical construction start we should eventually be able to see the steel from this same vantage point.
