Aurora's New Look Debuts at WDW

Oh, and regarding that DL/WDW looks comparison - there are plently of very attractive face characters at WDW. That comparison was just taking the "worst" examples.

I never said none of the face characters at WDW are attractive. I said DL is strict in the process and they're usually better looking and more attractive at the DLR, which is true. Some of those face characters at WDW most likely wouldn't get hired at DL. They are picky. I even said there are some unattractive ones at DL and I've seen pictures of attractive face characters at WDW.

I bet @TP2000, another Disneylander can tell you the same thing.

So I'm not quite sure I understand the reasoning behind changing the wigs. The wig is really the only definite thing that tells you "this girl is supposed to be princess ______". You can put them in any outfit, but the hair/wig will still tell you who its supposed to be. Giving them modernized, regular looking hair seems like a strange decision to me.

Completely agree. I hate Belle and Cinderella's hair. Belle's is too long and curley. She looks more southern belle then movie Belle. And Cinderella's just looks messy and TinkerBell-ish. I thought I would get used to them but they still rub me the wrong way.

My issue, when I think about it, isn't even the dresses. We have seen the characters in a multitude of dresses from gold to blue to pink to soundsational to Cinderellabration and had no issue. Sure we question some of the choices but at least the princess ALWAYS looked the same with their classic hair styles. However, I got that annoyed attitude the moment I saw the art changing the character's looks. They just don't look like the movie version and that shows in the live characters. I don't want to get into a discussion about all that though since there really is another thread about it. But just saying over all...The changes in wigs was a huge mistake on their part.

Aurora's wig is at best "ok" when on the right way. Her original hair was fine. The only reason she looked bulky was because her hair combined with that thick giant collar made her look that way. Now that issue is fixed with the new dress so the old hair would have been fine. Just my opinion of course.

On the subject of Phillip - poor poor Phillip. I'm not sure who dreamed up that terrible outfit, but it seems to be an attempt to recreate the outfit he wore with Aurora at the end of the film when she was in her BLUE dress.

It's basically black and red but what they dreamed up is pretty bad, and looks like it's made of felt from the clearance aisle of WalMart.

Not sure where the hat came from. The blow pic of Phillip is MUCH better - and why they don't use this version in meet and greets is beyond me. There's a little more artistic license taken on his color and pattern, but it looks much more regal, much more expensive, and there is no stupid hat. Aurora's dress isn't half bad either (I do prefer the new version though simply because it removes her Klingon shoulder pads.)

I think I'm in the minority but I really like both Cinderella's and Aurora's new hair. They both look much more natural. The color has so much more dimension instead of just plain flat yellow. I love that they both have hi lights and lowlights now. I thought Aurora's previous hair was the worst of all the princesses and the color was just universally unflattering on her.

YES. I don't think I ever saw a "friend" of Aurora's with good-looking hair. The hair now is much better!

I get what you are saying about the color. I have no issue with the color of the hair. Aurora's is actually a nice natural shade. However, I personally preferred their older, more eloquent styles. Belle's is just too long and curly and a busy hair design matched with a busy dress just makes her look like a mess. It just looks silly to me. Cinderella's looks messy and almost too simple. Her original style looked fit for a Royal Ball. Now it looks like she is ready to go bouncing to Ke$ha at prom. Aurora's, though still pretty, lacks that more 'poofier' bang. I don't like the flat look. And depending on how it's applied, it seems it can be very off and on. I just preferred her original look. What can I say, I am old fashioned.

I guess my issue is that they took away what is iconic about them. The dresses, as I said before, can change. We have seen dozens of designs and colors throughout the years. But the hair...their basic look...should have stayed the same. There was nothing wrong with them so why fix what isn't broken?

Anybody else think the lady as Aurora on the front page resembles Meredith from Lindsay Lohan Parent Trap?

Meredith_Blake.jpg
Ha, that Aurora on the front page seems to be everyone's favorite Aurora as of right now. She is gorgeous. I wish she was the first one I saw in the new dress. She reminds me more of Christine Taylor (Melody from "Hey Dude"). I think we need to give her a nick name, but what?

sooo...while browsing for some new photos of Aurora (still waiting for videos) I came across this on another message board. If the person is on here whom I 'stole it' from, my apologies but this is awesome and thank you for experimenting.

Ooo, pick me! I was the one who altered the color and posted it on the other forum. I'm glad you like this! My OCD kicked in and actually scrapped my first attempt at the coloring.

I just love how natural you made it look. I honestly thought it was real for a moment. Thinking Disney actually did make a blue version! lol But I knew better and then started reading the thread, lol

As for the color, I would love to see the original but this one was pretty too. Though I prefer her dress that darker royal blue, I just figured this pale color was supposed to complement the pale pink they chose. So it all matched in the end, lol

Good job and I love the screen name. :D

Sorry to bump, but I had the chance to see Aurora in person over the weekend and the look works much better live than in pictures. Gorgeously styled hair, dress shimmered in all the right places. I do miss the pointy shoulders. And for the first time (outside of a parade or show), Aurora can twirl!

I am still waiting to see videos. I am really surprised that after almost a week none of the Disney people (Character Hunters, that Jeff Lang guy, etc) haven't gotten any yet, lol

I miss the points too because it's the iconic part of the dress, however, their real life interpretation was really unflattering on her. to high (they really shouldn't be going up level or past her ears, lol) and bulky looking. The new dress still make the shoulders look like they have an angel to them, just not so exaggerated. All in all, it's my favorite make over so far. I am still iffy on the wig though.

Thanks for posting!

I love her new dress, and the new looks. I mean the princesses haven't had a change in forever, they needed an update. And now every princess has a different color dress which is makes them stick out more. And all the princesses friends are beautiful and people need to stop hating on them. They work hard for that job.

Count me as one of the people who weren't thrilled with this at first. I still don't care for the new styles on the Merchandise but I must say, after a visit to Disney World in February and seeing Cinderella and Belle's new look in person, I was totally sold. They are beautiful and I wish Aurora's new look had been out then as well. As for the cast members who portray them, every single one of them has my respect and admiration. While some of them are definitely better than others, we have not had a single vacation go by without at least a couple of these fine young ladies giving us some very special moments. Visits with the Princesses are always a highlight of our trips.

The park dresses needed an update from wires, tubes, padding, and bulk sure. For the most part, besides a few annoying details, they did a good job. Their wig and basic faces, however, did not. I don't care how old the characters are they were still relevant before the changes so it wasn't like the changes are giving them any benefit. If fact, it is splitting fans apart. I am old fashioned, I want my Cinderella, Aurora, Belle and who ever else to look like the movie they were based off of. Not some cheap Barbie wanna-be design to fit in with the hip crowd. Cinderella does not have side swept bangs and to me, a paying customer, finds it wrong. I'm sorry, but I am not going to buy into that kind of brainwashing. The girls do NOT need to be made modern. They are classic, timeless characters who should be fitting in the time they were created. Snow White is 74 years old. The bow being switched to the side of her head and added glitter is NOT going to make her any more popular than she already is and has been for 74 years.

And now every princess has a different color dress which is makes them stick out more.

And how did they not stick out in the past? You are really telling me that people confuse Snow White with Belle and that Aurora and Cinderella really look so much alike that people can't tell them apart? How the heck did I live with all these characters BEFORE the princess brand took over in the 2000s? And they all don't have different colors... Ariel and Jasmine have the same form of blue/green color to them. Which isn't good because everyone is going to get Arial and Jasmine confused. And they have always had different color dresses, that's not something new to the redesigns. The truth is they didn't color code them so they would stand out. They color coded them because it looks good on packaging. So it basically comes down to marketing over integrity. joy

And all the princesses friends are beautiful and people need to stop hating on them. They work hard for that job.

Who is hating on the actors? Because I am pretty sure the general discussion is that, though they are all beautiful, some fit the characters more than others. Yes, they do work hard for the job because...well...that is what it is....a job. More specifically, an acting job. And when you are in an acting job, you are hired because of certain physical attributes. The discussion was how one park is stricter on those attributes than the other.

I respect your opinion, if you like the redesigns and have absolutely no issue what so ever, then great. I am glad you are happy. But remember that there are other people who don't and we have every right to voice our concerns as paying customers. We grew up with the characters as much as anyone else and we have invested plenty of hours and money to supporting Disney. (and we do it proudly) Our opinions mean just as much as the 5 year old because the 5 year old isn't the one buying the merchandise or the %2000+ Disney trips. If Disney goes to far with their money grubbing, they may find backlash one day.

I wonder if the next round of make overs will have Aurora with black hair, Snow White with Blonde hair and have Mulan looking like a geisha...oh....wait...Well, it's Disney's decision so we will have to like it and not argue about it in anyway.
