Attractions Built Since 2005: Have I Got This Right?

I can bet dan didn't miss your point, but the OP didn't create this thread to expose the lack of attractions, re-skins, refurbs, etc. added. They created it for the purpose of updating someone else on WDW, not the DLR. Your earlier post didn't help the OP's purpose at all.
Actually it was helpful; it shows how much better DLR is, and that they should consider going to a good resort.

Why are you doing this? This isn't about the DLR, the OP isn't going to the DLR. You're not helping one bit.
I'm doing this because WDW has become stale and is in many ways broken (and there is almost no attempt by TDO to fix it). When people ask me about WDW I tell them to go to DLR, its cheaper and is a LOT better.

Anyway, whether it's true or not, the perception of Disney corporate management is that the Disneyland fanbase is local, vocal, and fickle, and require constant improvements and additions to keep them happy and renewing their annual memberships. The WDW fanbase, on the other hand, tends to visit only every couple years, and is more fixated on nostalgia. It's more important to WDW guests that all the rides they rode last time are open while they're there than that something new has opened, as they have already shown themselves willing to return year after year to see the same attractions.

Funmeister's comparison shows that Disney has constructed their North American park strategy with these (probably correct) assumptions.

In the last decade there have only been four completely new rides added.

Soarin'
Expedition Everest
Toy Story Mania
Little Mermaid

7 Dwarves coaster this year makes five. That's an average of one new ride every two years. Sad if you ask me.

From my Ride Build Rate thread:

Soarin' Epcot 5/5/2005
Expedition Everest AK 4/7/2006
Toy Story Midway Mania DHS 5/31/2008
Under the Sea with the Little Mermaid Magic Kingdom 12/6/2012
Test Track Presented by Chervrolet Epcot 12/6/2012
Seven Dwarfs Mine ride ??/??/2014
Test Track was rethemed, doesn't count in this case.

Cropping his post to fit the context of the thread (Additions since April 2005 that are "rides" and haven't been re-done)
And you put Enchanted Tiki Bar as an attraction... now I know your stance on alcohol ;)
Do spectaculars count as rides? In that case we can add one more.
It doesn't, just goes to show DLR is better.
And yet another thread turns into a DL vs. WDW debate. :arghh:

My Dad will be coming with us on our May 2014 WDW trip. He said to me the other day, "since I haven't been to WDW since April 2005, there must be dozens of new things to see! Tell me about all the new attractions they've built in the last nine years!"

Now, I know when Dad says attractions, he doesn't mean shows or meet-and-greets -- just "rides" -- and that when he says new, he means entirely new and not rethemed, trimmed or upgraded (e.g., Dumbo, Star Tours, Country Bear Jamboree, etc.). So I stammered something about a Little Mermaid dark ride in the Magic Kingdom, a gentle Snow White coaster that will likely be done by the time we visit, Toy Story Midway Mania in Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom's Dinosaur and Expedition Everest. I also mentioned that Snow White's Scary Adventures was gone. Dad's palpable disappointment was mystifyingly unabated by my reassurance that Toontown has been demolished/rethemed and that there were some nice new bathrooms to explore in the Magic Kingdom.

What am I missing? Is 5 "new" attractions really "it" since 2005? I want to be sure and introduce Dad to all the things he hasn't seen before.
That's roughly since Eisner left the company as CEO. Everest and Soaring were among the last attractions Eisner greenlit before he left.

Besides attractions, a new resort or minor theme park (or whole theme park) would open every couple of years (every few years for either minor or major new theme park).

During the time since Eisner left, Bob Iger (the current Disney CEO) as concentrated on big projects separated by longer periods of time between openings. At WDW, this includes FLE, Disney Springs, and Avatar.

World-wide, this includes DCA 2.0 (TSMM and Mermaid was cloned from that project), the three new lands at HKDL, and SDL.

Iger will probably best be known for all the mergers that happened under his watch: Pixar, Marvel, LucasFilm, and one other big one is likely before he retires in 2016.
