Assorted Small Animal Kingdom Updates

The signs for Tiffins and Pizzafari are among the most interesting things in that update. Do those suggest that these restaurants aren't doing as well as had been anticipated? (At least in Tiffin's case)
The Tiffin’s sign in particular borders on desperation. I can’t imagine they’d put a sign that says “seating available” outside the park entrance if the restaurant were doing well.

My thoughts exactly. Will be interesting to see how they elect to change the restaurant to counter those issues.

Does making it a character dining experience draw in the audience it seems to be lacking right now? Probably. That and an overhaul of the menu have to be some items being tossed around right now, for better or worse.

While the interior is absolutely stunning at Tiffins, the menu just isn't there IMHO. It's more like some experimental menu at a trendy urban dive than fine dining. I feel for the chef , kitchen, and wait staff for that location.

Maybe Disney has reached a limit with their advanced planning annoying-ness and overpriced entrees.

That is the vibe of the place it seems to me. I think the average guest perceives it as too high end. And guests that are looking for exclusivity find the location right on the main thoroughfare off putting.

I personally am really fond of Tiffins. I rather enjoy the menu, however Tiffins is a victim of being a themepark TS restaurant. It has to be dumbed down to get people in the door. (ala skipper canteen) Tiffins would be much more successful in a hotel, but the perception I think many have is that it is too close to Jiko. I certainly hope they don’t Artist Point it and reimagine it or dumb it down.

Exactly. It feels like a hotel restaurant from what I see.

One problem I think with Tiffins is location. Sure the food isn’t something that everyone eats but not every location needs to be that. I’ve never had anything than great service and food there. It’s by far my favorite in park restaurant.

Tiffins is the best restaurant experience on property for me, especially when the Nomad Lounge is added on. Just my opinion of course.

Tiffins is excellent, IMO too.

Talking to a manager there and it was built in DAK precisely to rival the excellent Africa-themed restaurants at AKL and to keep them in DAK.

Though, for me, what hurts Tiffins is Satuli Canteen, a really good fast serve with excellent theming and much less expensive.

I guess. I don’t think the same consumer is choosing between Tiffins and Satuli tho. Tiffins is a signature so of course it’s going to be more expensive than a quick service. Someone looking to save money is never going to look at Tiffins to begin with.

See I sort of disagree with the location thing that you and a couple of others have mentioned. Thanks to 180 day reservations, signature TS restaurants in the class that Tiffins is in should be booked well in advance ala California Grill etc. Tiffins could be located in the middle of the DAK parking lot and it still should be packed.

It’s sort of a similar situation to why you can get a reservation to Monsieur Paul at anytime while Chefs De France is booked up months out.

I think Tiffins has three strikes going against it as a park TS: 1 price, 2 The menu is intimidating for some, 3 It is too fancy for the average guest visiting DAK.

All of which is a shame because it is really good.

It took a while for Skipper’s to get traction too right? They did “dumb” down the menu a little (I’m assuming so picky eaters don’t veto the option for a group), but it is still fairly unique. I’m assuming it needs a few more safe options and more time.

I’m probably more surprised that the Pandora restaurant has remained as unique as it has, given it is a qs.
