Looks like the construction is coming along nicely. Their design doesn't quite match my tastes, but I know the family suites will meet the high demand for this type of room.

I do have to agree, though, that there are vacation homes available not far off property for about the same rates as the value resorts (and cheaper than suites for sure). For my family, we prefer to stay on property most of the time, so we'll save for POFQ or Contemporary. But, we could save a bundle by renting a vacation home if we choose.

You are wrong.
Actually, it's quite likely that they will eventually convert Pop Century Classic Years over to an AoA theme (and it wouldn't be difficult to do). Unless they want to rename it to Pop Semicentury.

Pop is popular because it has nicer facilities than the All-Stars, but its theme is certainly not "beloved."

Uh, no, you couldn't rent an entire home or timeshare off-site for the same price. Not unless someone wanted to stay in the same trailer park as you.

Actually if you do a couple of quick searches, this may pop up in ebay or many other sites:

Going for less than $1000/week you can get a 2 bedroom lock-off at a really nice timeshare within a 5 minute drive. complete with a full kitchen, marble counter tops, and all the amenities of a home. It sleeps 8 has several themed pools and activities.

Did a comparable search for AoA...$2124

It all depends on where (and in what sort of residence) you want to stay. And yes, it's often much cheaper. But that's also not the point, now is it?

I think its looking nice but its a little too cartoon-y for my tastes so far. I would have preferred a more classic animation-y approach (if that makes sense).

My only issue is it seems like they built this to compete with the Nickelodeon family suites. Both resorts have the similar, over the top, cartoon interiors for rooms. Had Disney of approached this project with their usual approach for interior and exterior design, I think it would have looked better. The Pop half-a-century thing bothers me as well.

We'll see how close the rooms come to the artist designs.

They look ugly ... or tacky might be the better word. Just like the All Stars ... and Pop Century.

I guess they at least fill a need with the family suites. Of course for what they're charging, families could rent an entire home or nice timeshare just minutes away (probably for less!)

Honestly, he's absolutely correct. My family paid $80 a night at the Tuscana "Condotel" just south of Disney World. Very nice -- brand new everything, classy. We had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, dining room, living room, washer and dryer, nice swimming pool etc.

I recall last time I stayed on-property, prices at Pop Century were $85 for a regular room for only 2 beds.

So yes.... WDW is completely correct here.

Anyone else think it's silly they're going with a "animation drawings on paper" motif on the Nemo building? Would much rather see a massive version of the color scripts or concept art

I'm with you on this. I can see what they are going for with the animation drawings but I don't think it looks all that great when painted four stories high.

We'll see what the end product looks like, but initial reaction is a thorough "meh" at this point.

Not to mention it doesn't really make sense with Pixar movies and using clip-art designs to boot.

It's certainly looking better than when I took this pic back in the summer of 2009:

So are the preferred rooms at all of the other 4 value resorts. They drop to almost 1/2 that total during value season.

Most of us who reads these boards are seasoned WDW veterans. We all know and understand what the priceing of rooms resorts are at WDW. What is the point really? Besides stateing the obvious. Someone should start a thread of the top "Most beat to death WDW topics"

PI....ie Adventures Club

Not in any piticular order....just to name a few. The AOA siutes serve a huge need. TDO wouldnt have built it if this wasnt the case. Regaurdless of the cost. I suspect this resort will be very popular. Thus relieveing some pressure on other resorts. For those that dont like this or that about the resort. Disney uses a huge amount of resources when decideing on design and theme of a resort and everything else that they build. Given their lasting rate of sucess....I think they know their customer base as well as anyone........most of the time. (can anyone say PI?)
