In my culture (same as LilDucky), my mom's cousin's kids are my cousins. As far as we all can tell, we're all cousins, and all the adults are my uncles and aunts.

Less confusing this way and we're all blood anyway :lol:

Ya, on the "Beverly Hillbillies", Jethro is technically "Uncle" Jed's first cousin once removed, based on what we have gone over already. Jethro's mother is Jed's cousin Pearl, which, technically, means that Jed is not Jethro's uncle at all. But like you say, it's easier just to refer to elder family members like that as either "Uncle" so and so or "cousin" so and so and forget about all this "once removed" mumbo jumbo.

So basically, to tie this all in with the topic, are we saying then that Ariel is a first cousin once removed to Hercules? :lol:

Heck, I haven't even seen that movie, so I suppose I should either go out and buy it or rent it.

The funny thing is, sometimes they dont even have to be blood related, which is probably even more confusing than the technical geneology terms! :hammer: Sometimes, an "aunt" or "uncle" could just be a friend of the family that goes waaay waaay back :lol:

Wow, this thread brought some interesting light on several Disney Characters, then went way out there w/ the whole cousins thing and completely lost me. I'm in agreement w/ others as far as how family works, it's cousins, aunts, uncles and parents/grand-parents/great-grand-parents etc.

Anything else, well, it's too complicated for me.

Hercules is actually Roman Mythology. Heracles is the Greek Mythological hero.

Hercules is my all-time favorite Disney movie, but that one little inaccuracy always drives me crazy.

Regardless, that connection is very interesting and I never would've thought of it!

Neptune, Hades, & Zeus are brothers, according to Greek Mythology. Triton is Neptune's Son in Greek Mythology. That would make King Triton the nephew of Zeus and Hades. Thus, making Triton and Hercules cousins, making Ariel and Hercules 2nd cousins.

Keep in mind this is all according in Greek Mythology.

So next time your at a meet and greet with one of them, ask them about it.

And what ever happened to Ariel's Mom?

Greek= Poseidon (sp?), Hades, & Zeus are brother
Roman= Neptune, Pluto (I think), and Jupiter (or Jove) are bros

Someone already mentioned the Hercules, Herecles thing, too. I don't know if Triton's name goes back and forth or not. Just thought I would up the ante on nitpickyness.
