I am so sorry to address this bc I have always enjoyed this board to find things out and here the latest but lately it's just everything negative about Disney. I am a little confused....are you guys really fans and do y'all enjoy Disney Vacations still? I really don't mean to offend anyone bc I definitely see some faults in Disney lately but I am confused as to why some people are on here?

Unfortunately the standard that many of us have grown to expect (and somewhat demand) from Disney has fallen by the wayside. I love Disney. I am a student of Disney history. I vacation there once a year and my children love it. But I do not feel the same standards are being upheld as when I frequented the parks as a child. Maybe that's because back then I was just a kid, and I was not PAYING for the trip so did not expect any returns on my dollar. Maybe I've seen too many things I loved as a child destroyed and not replaced. Whatever the reason, I do enjoy keeping on top of all news and I do enjpy being surrounded by those that are as fascinated by the magic as I am.

And welcome to WDWMagic - hopefully you'll stay as it's a great community of disney enthusiasts.

Speaking for myself, I am a fan but that doesn't mean I don't see Disney's failings especially in their park upkeep and expansion in the last 15+ years. It doesn't stop me from going as often as I am able but like many here we see the upkeep lacking and know what was possible in the past that is no longer happening. The "product" is still superior to most parks but not if the trend continues and that is why there is so much negativity in pointing out these things in hopes that this will change.

Put it this way...last trip we got stuck on Pirates for 45 minutes and were subsequently evacuated from the ride. It was the first ride of the trip. After sitting there on the boat for about 30 minutes my dad, who is in his early 70s and been taking us to the parks since 1976, taps me on the shoulder and says, "they really don't put as much effort into maintenance as they used to, do they?" No dad, they do not.

This is another way to look at it (hypothetical example):

I am a fan of a sports team. This sports team constantly gets to the playoffs and is always in contention for a championship. A few years later the team doesn't make the playoffs and goes into a slump.

In these circumstances I as a fan would talk about the poor quality of coaches/players/play. It's almost a guarantee that I'm going to talk about the poor qualities of the team. Does that mean I'm not a fan? Of course not. I can talk about something negatively without hating it.

Of course not all of us would consider ourselves "fans" anymore, but I'm pretty sure everyone is/was at one point a fan of Disney. Some to a bigger extent than others.

I bust the mouse's chops quite regularly. I have been going since '71 and these days I only go when I get in for free. And sometimes not even then.
Does that answer your question?

I am a fan of several sports teams that consistently do NOT make the playoffs. I cannot relate to your example. :cautious:

OP. You are correct.

Others. You do not find this level of negativity on other forums. That does not mean they don't 'love' WDW as much as the negative posters here so apply that to your argument and see if it makes sense.

On the sport fan comparison, sorry, I am a Lions fan so I can relate to that theory and no, I have not jumped up and down and bad mouthed, name called, belittled, joked are tore down the Lions on a Football Fan forum every day, multiple times a day for thousands of posts for umpteen years. That is not loving a sports team, sorry.

To add to this, I would suggest that if Walt and Roy (or Eisner) had to deal with Irrational Exuberance of the early 2000s or the financial collapse of 5 years ago or the many many other factors that negatively effect our culture today those Golden Years would be much more yellow.

I never said anything about making fun of Disney.

You have recognized that the Lions have struggled, just as people have recognized that Disney has struggled.

Regarding the joking aspect, that's just some people's nature. There are some people who enjoy belittling things, even when they love them; they just like to complain. Then there are some people (like me) who enjoy humor and post jokes about things. These jokes are not bashing Disney, but rather certain people in charge. Kind of like when fans criticize owners/GMs/coaches for not winning more.

I am a huge Disney fan...but only within the last 4 years. I have made a similar post recently about the fact that I feel that I have an advantage (if that is the proper term) over some of the other posters on this site that have been going to WDW since they were very young. I am a father of 3 that never went to WDW until I was 38. And I have to say that the issues and declining quality discussed on this forum are not noticed by me or my family when we visit. I am amazed by Disney every time I step onto any of the parks or resort properties (and yes, I am one of the idiots that Spirit refers to when talking about people crazy enough to pay that much money for a WDW vacation - we only stay on deluxe resort properties). The atmosphere and the "feel" of being in "the world" is something very tangible to us.

And we have been to Universal - both parks - and I just don't get the same experience when there. Universal is more an amusement park to me, but a really, really good one. That is he difference I suppose - amusement versus theme. As far as theming goes, I don't see anyone beating Disney.

I am certain that in time, I will start seeing issues as most other people do. Familiarity breeds contempt, and nostalgia is difficult to maintain when the old is replaced with new that is perceived as less. For now though, I will enjoy the view with these fresh eyes. I will end on this note, however. IF Star Wars Land is greenlit and it is less than stellar, that will deserve severe criticism (I also am a Philadelphia sports can so I know how to criticize!). I was raised on Star Wars in the 70's, and this IP deserves top notch treatment.
