Are you really Disney Fans or Imposters?

I am so sorry to address this bc I have always enjoyed this board to find things out and here the latest but lately it's just everything negative about Disney. I am a little confused....are you guys really fans and do y'all enjoy Disney Vacations still? I really don't mean to offend anyone bc I definitely see some faults in Disney lately but I am confused as to why some people are on here?

I felt exactly the same when I joined, a mere two weeks ago i think. I came here all happy and excited and was quickly brought back to reality. You can even find a post similar to yours from me in the HM gate thread.

I though this would be this great place to talk about how awesome Disney is. But ... It is not.
But as they days have gone by, I've found that not everyone is negative and it's not such a bad place afterall.

You just have to accept that everyone has and is entitled to an opinion. And whether online or in person not everyone is meant to get along.

I'm happy I've stuck around so far.

I have made a similar post recently about the fact that I feel that I have an advantage...

I wouldn't necessarily call that an advantage.

OP, we're all fans. We are not impostors. If we (well, some of us) weren't fans, we wouldn't be calling Disney out on their crap. We love the parks and want to see them at the best they can be. Everything isn't always perfect with Disney, but a lot of fanbois don't want to believe that. It's okay to be hard on something or someone you love.

Like wm49rs said, this is an open discussion forum. We're here to discuss things, mainly WDW, whether it's something positive or negative.

Agreed. Like I said, I love all of the Philly sports franchises and I complain about them on a daily basis. That doesn't mean I dislike them. On the contrary, to me that means that I am deeply invested in them. I figure that there must be some sort of honeymoon period where everything seems perfect. I know it will end at some point so I am just enjoying this for as long as it lasts. :D

Thank you very much for your responses. I really do see where most people are coming from and understand.
Also, I wanted to add that I certainly didn't want to insinuate that I didn't respect others opinions bc I do. And, I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone by using the Imposters. It was strictly a light hearted title.
Thanks again for your responses. It was eye opening to see everybody's opinion.

I'm chiming in a little late here...

I can totally relate to all of you...

I'm a big kid at heart and I'm also a fan of Disney, it's parks, history, and legendary status as a part of American culture...I have an entire book case full of books on the subject matter!

I have a blog where I rant as much as I do here...but you know I guess it's like this....

I love the place...I didn't get to go until I was 17 because my folks couldn't afford to take us as kids...I was introduced to the thing well on the way to adulthood and I was absolutely hooked and blown away by the details and the "stories" that connect everything...even to this day it's truly is my favorite place on earth...

I've delved deep into the books and history of the company and what I see sometimes isn't the ole "Quality will out" stance that Walt led the company with back in the day...and true these are more modern times and that the expectations are different and the competition is a little more stiff...

But what typically upsets me enough to write about things with an touch of negativity is that I know what the parks are capable of. I know what kind of "magic" they can create and what kind of lasting impressions they can have on people's lives as well as their experiences. So, when I see that a spineless such and such in a suit comes in and takes over in various departments who has VERY little respect for the culture and not a hint of respect for how things should be done and how to take care of such an investment... I get touchy...it's not just money they've put into parks...they've made a legendary place...that people hold near and dear...

They're often messing with my holy shrine, my other home, my "laughing place" if you will...

And sometimes it's not even that...sometimes change IS necessary...everyone knows that...Walt knew that...and I respect that fully. It's when they take something that's perhaps mediocre or even great and make it worse for being so frugal that I lose my cool...it's a lack of respect for detail and the race to save money that are killing the parks on occasion...the place and the stories are like a part of my life I want to see them protected...and above all respected...when that doesn't happen...I get as p***ed off as Sasquatch in British Columbia during camping season...

TRUST me...I AM a TRUE fan. I spend tons of moolah to go there...I proposed to my wife there, we went there for our honeymoon...I am a fan through and through...but shoot...not everything is about money...sometimes you gotta find that balance...and to me...that's not being done so much...they have got to get back to the roots sometimes...

I live in Cleveland.....
So you're in the same boat as me. So sorry!!!

I live in N.IL, a lifelong Cubs Fan, can I join your club.

And my 2 cents I dislike being called on the carpet for being honest about Disney's shortcomings. It is their fault not mine. I don't like being belittled for speaking to the obvious.

If the majority of repeat WDW guests started filling out cards in GR whenever they were stuck on rides for 45 minutes or insert any issue, we might see some movement in maintenance. Unfortunately too many are so accepting of Disney lowering the bar on general maintenance and fawn over Disney's even with the lower standards of the 21st century. Disney would much rather reinvest with stock buy backs than invest in maintenance or new attractions.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

Disney isn't what it used to be. I went in 2010, for the first time as a paying parent / adult (after a LONG hiatus)...

The trip started, I thought I'd wasted my money, that it was all gloss. By the end of the trip, I was blown away.

2011 was a good trip.

2012 was ok.

2013...we did a Cruise.

I'm sorry, the Cruise (not the cruise itself, the quality of CM, the offerings, the service, etc...) completely BLOWS WDW out of the water.

And, I've said this before...there is no reason why WDW can't do that again.

Heck, I spent a TON of money and stayed Contemporary (one of the "best" Deluxe, right?) Atrium. Yeah...Cruise beat the socks off it. For service, I want to be clear. (it's not fair to compare experiences outside of that).

I'll add, sorry...in a mood...

I stayed at Royal Pacific at Uni last year, and while they didn't give me towel animals, my room was immaculate every day.

I rarely get that at Disney anymore, for a similar cost.

I stayed at POFQ and got towel animals twice (quite fun) but the room felt dirty and old. Heck, my TV stand was missing a handle, and I called the front desk (because it bothered me)...while the CMs at the front desk were very nice (face to face) I got the general impression over the phone they didn't care.

Look, here's what you do. Go to a home depot...they sell these things called "drawer accessories". You do a Paid Out expense and fix it! ESPECIALLY IF A GUEST NOTICED IT AND CALLED TO LET YOU KNOW!

<sigh>

Walt came, he saw, he conquered. The immediate generation of guys that were left behind did the best they could, and it turned out pretty awesome, and I think he would have been pretty pleased, considering the circumstances. Wish sooooo many of you could have been at WDW back in the day. Even you guys would agree, if Uncle Walt came back today, he would have some beeeeehinds on platters.
And, that's all I have to say about that...for now.......

It reminds me of the days when I used to have to bust lower restaurant managers down the chain.

"Why don't you have French dressing on your salad bar?"

"Well, no one ever uses it (not true, but pretty accurate), and the truck didn't deliver it."

"Ok, well, why didn't you replace it with something?"

"I dunno."

"Now there's just an empty spot of ice on the salad bar where there is supposed to be a crock with offerings for people who paid 8 bucks for a salad plate. You could have put out celery, or pepperoni...anything, really..."

"I dunno."

"Ok, well, worse case, why didn't you just go buy some french dressing from the grocery store IN THE SAME SHOPPING CENTER AS YOU?"

"I dunno."

"Ok, so basically, the Guest (we used to call them Guests) have are offered less for the same price, and you don't care, do you? Do you know our corporate mission statement?"

"Make money?"

"No, it's Every Guest Leaves Happy. How would you fell if you paid 8 bucks and saw that salad bar with ice not filled to the brims and product looking like it's 3 days old?"

"I wouldn't buy it."

"So, why do you think THEY'LL buy it?"

"I don't know..."

"What do you mean 'you don't know'...what if that was YOUR hard earned money trying to make your kid happy and have a good time yourself?'"

"I guess I'd want something better?" (or, f*** you came next...I was good at making poor managers quit)

<sigh>

I hate to say it, but the lazy management culture at Disney is so friggin' obvious.

I stayed at the Portofino. I did not receive animal towels. I did however get a lovely tray of chocolates, all molded to Uni icons. Towel vs chocolates? Want to guess what I enjoyed more?
