And so much for the Patriots playing 60 minutes of football when their coach wouldn't stay on the field for the final play. He's catching heat over that one.

My wife thought I was weird for focusing on that last night. When it was commented on that Belicheck was already half way up the tunnel before the last snap I was in shock. I will give him credit for one thing. He really doesn't seem to care what others think.

So, we had no party this year, attended no party. Put the kids down at halftime. I think this is only the second Super Bowl I've seen every play. Turned out really good this time. Fantastic game! I almost feel like the Patriots are contractually obligated to keep the Super Bowl close and this time they got burned. :lookaroun

Belichick is the main factor for the Patriots loss last night.

1. Why not go for that field goal? 49 yarder and he was kicking 52 yards at practice. Come to find out...that one field goal could've been the difference.

2. First play of the game...trick play? You don't pull a trick play like that until you've seen how your offensive line is holding up against the defensive line.

3. Last drive. Let's Hail Mary to Moss...ok, didn't work...so...let's Hail Mary to Moss...didn't work again...ok...so...let's Hail Mary to Moss. WHAT?!?!?!?

35 seconds left with 3 time outs...why not toss a 20 yarder to Welker, have Donte grab one on the sidelines 15 yards out...another 15-20 yarder to Welker...and BAM...there's a 40 yard field goal with 00:01 left on the clock.

The Giants outplayed the Pats on all aspects of the game. Offense, Defense, Special Teams, and most importantly...coaching.

All good points, Brian. I was very surprised at the play calling on the final drive. Brady had been off all night on his long passes, though those were accurate, Moss was too well covered.

BB's best move of the night was catching the Giants with 12 men on the field, but unlike the other 18 games, this was one time that they didn't capitalize on the opportunity.

The "missed" FG will be second-guessed for years. All he would've given up was 8 yards of field position. 8 yards for a shot at 3 points.

Totally agree with you Brian! Things could have gone so differently, but it's over, and the better playing team won last night.

On to baseball!

The really only questionable call I saw all night was the "fumble" that wasn't ruled a fumble. I'm not saying that is what cost the Pats the game, because they clearly didn't win the game and didn't even put themselves in a position to win that game.

This was one of the best officiated games I have seen in a long time.

Anybody else think that it was a REALLY quick SuperBowl? Simply due to the fact that there were hardly any flags thrown.

I was shocked by this sequence as well. If anything throw a medium range pass to make the Giants think you are trying to set up the game tying FG and THEN try one over the top to Moss.

Bri, I agree that it was a pretty quick game. Well, except for that last minute. Anything could have happened at that point. I think one of the commentators even said, "This will be the longest 29 seconds in Eli Manning's life!!" Very few challenges, flags and injuries (thank goodness!). Maybe if seemed quick b/c the bf and I just stayed in and made chili. No madness, no parties.

Brian, I completely agree with everyone else, you are one classy Pats fan, my friend. I know you were disappointed, but it takes a big person to admit that the other team played a great game. So, now, Go Sox! :lookaroun

Hey, sometimes you have to realize that it's just a game. I'm more of a "sports" fan than I am a "team" fan. Sure, I like my teams...ok, I LOVE my teams...but I'm in no way disappointed when I sit and watch one helluva game being played.

I love NFL football...Whether the Pats are in the SuperBowl or not...I get excited...I love it and hope that the team that plays better for 60 minutes comes out on top. That happened last night. I was never an Eli liker...but he proved himself in a major way these past few weeks and he has now earned some respect in my eyes. (Actually, he earned it in Week 17).

Which fumble are you referring to? I missed most of the first half (Church Awana Sparky leader that I am) and only got to see most of the third and fourth quarters. I have to assume you are talking about the final Giants drive where Eli's knee was clearly down before the ball came loose. To which he recovered anyway.

As for the Pats last gasp. I thought the first play was not a hail mary to Moss. Brady just missed. Second play did not look like a hail mary either, just a nice sack to the torso. The third down play was a mere foot or two from being complete. Of course, Moss should have gone up for that catch, not waited on it.

Whatever that hand motion was that Moss did after his TD, I hope everyone he runs into for the next few months repeats it IN HIS FACE!!!!

It must really bite to go from possibly the best team ever to the worst 18-1 team in history :drevil:

No, not the Eli fumble. There was a fumble, our guy jumped on it...and all of a sudden they gave it back to the Giants. The Pats player (can't remember who it was) was laying on top of the ball...knees down...and they give the ball to the Giants. Like I said, it didn't matter much because on the next play it was 3rd down and they didn't convert and punted to the Pats. The only thing that I said was that it was a missed call. I also believe I said that it probably wouldn't have changed the game and in no way am I "whining" about the bad call...just pointing out that the officiating was great and that was the only bad call I saw. Please don't make it out like I was complaining about the officiating because that is the last thing I'm doing.

That one had me puzzled too. The NE player was clearly on top of the ball. Usually fumbles are huge scrums and I've heard that possession can change many times before the refs sort it all out, but that one seemed clear cut. It could have made a difference, because instead of retaining possession and then punting like NY did, NE could have had much better field position.

We'll never know....

The way they played...the Pats probably would've gone 3 and out...and punted again. That's why I said it probably wouldn't have made a difference...just the only questionable call the refs made.

Why did this game turn up an egg for them? Overconfidence? Great NY coaching? Brady's ankle?

Maybe the Patriots O-line members who were coming off of injury were just too rusty. The biggest thing was that on plays when the Giants didn't blitz, D-linemen either got in the backfield or got a big enough push to disrupt things.

1. Bill Belichick and his play calling.
2. Great game plan for NY
3. Incredible Defensive line for NY
4. Too busy with the media and not the practices
5. Lack of Offensive line for NE

They were literally outplayed at every aspect.

Offense...well, they scored more points.
Defense...well, they allowed less points.
Special Teams...look at the average starting line the Giants had vs. the Pats
Coaching...a major underdog winning...I think that says it all.

Yep. Did not see that one. Maybe the it was a quick whistle?

Not insinuating that you are whining. Sorry if it was taken that way. Helluva a season for the Pats. Too bad really.

I thought when I saw Seau and Brewsky hug after the Moss TD that poetic justice was more than possible. Ahhhhhh

No, I know you weren't insinuating that...I just didn't want others to take it that way :)

Wildcat...we have our different views...but that's what makes sports so fun

That game was over from the first play of the game in my eyes. I knew the Pats were going to lose it when I saw them try a trick play without even testing the waters first.

(EDIT: Actually, I knew the Pats were going to lose once Scott had that dream of them winning  )

I enjoyed it. Let's do it again next year. . .

I will be on your side come baseball season. I pull for the home town Reds and the Red Sox (when they are not playing the Reds - which they do this year in the regular season).

Go REDS (sox)
