Are we being cheated?

Am I over-reacting or are we being cheated out of our admission prices? I just returned from Disneyland only to discover that the park is closing one hour earlier this year. I also have a trip booked to Disney World this September and found out that they are closing at 6:00 this year instead of 9:00. This is 3 hours less daily in the park! Help me out, am I being too picky or are we getting ripped off? We are seriously considering a trip cancellation and getting a refund while we can. Any comments?

Well, yeah... But according to corperate philosophy the parks are still an "excellent value, even with the reduced hours."

I remember going to the parks in the 80's and early 90's and the parks used to be open LATE!...and if I remember correctly...the prices of the admissions were CHEAPER...

I don't know why but they keep on promoting MORE and MORE attractions and things to do in WDW theme parks and by hearing this, you'd EXPECT the prices to increase...but why give us LESS time to see MORE stuff??? Ahhh...so we'll have to buy TWO days admissions to see the same amount of stuff...

as we all know, it has to do with crowds. Disney figures out how much you should be able to do each day, and depending on anticipated lines, they adjust hours so you will have, in theory, enough time to see as much stuff any day of the year. Basically, the lines are shorter when you go than they are now or around Christmas, so hours are shorter. You should still be able to see the same amount of attractions--it's the lack of fireworks that would irritate me...

Offering less for the same price has the same effect as offering the same for a higher price. Either way the value of a park ticket decreases. So really, cutting park hours is the equivalent of raising ticket prices. It's disappointing, but I wouldn't necessarily call it being cheated. You still have the option not to buy the tickets at all. That's the American way. ;)

The only fireworks showw that ever gets canceled is at the MK.

It's not the best, so i don't see why people get so upset. It very much a generic fireworks show with the MK as a backdrop. Go watch Fanasmic or Illumninations, real "shows" not just Fireworks.

SpectroMagic is my favorite attraction at Disney World...that aside, every other amusement park on the planet does the same thing disney does. They all decrease their hours during the off-season, but most do not decrease prices. It would only work for one day passes anyway, which most of us do not get. Any park hoppers would need to have a constant price b/c they never expire.

There is so much at Disney to do.. that we really dont care about that hours.. I mean you have Downtown Disney...Market Place... Pleasure Island...Water Parks.. Mini Golf.. you get my drift. But perhaps we think this way because we have been there so many times.

The water parks close at 6, the mini-golfs stay open late, I'll give you that, but they are not a substitute for the theme parks, and as far as Downtown Disney goes, Pleasure Island and West Side cater to specific demographics (and from gaming guru's perspective, with the sole exception of Disneyquest, Citywalk is better).

Why bring Citywalk into it? People will either find Downtown Disney to be an adequate stand in for the extra park hours, or they won't. Citywalk doesn't really enter into it.

When people spend their money their, or any other place off-property due to Disney's decision to cut park hours, it is Disney's problem.

My point is that Disney's having competition does not change the fact that Downtown Disney is an option that Disney provides on their property to fill in a bit of time, as Monorail256 pointed out. If some people prefer Citywalk to Downtown Disney, that is a completely different issue, and therefore irrelevant to this topic.

Someone mentioned earlier in this thread about they advertise more and more for the money. Now then, let's look at that. They have removed MORE RIDES AND ATTRACTIONS than they have brought in during recent years. So i really don't see that point. If Disney continues at this rate for... say... the next 10-20 years, there will be 46 sq. miles with one ride left.
But anyways.. back to the point, yes during the slow season they do shut early but when i was there last month, they stayed open until midnight on one of the nights. So who's to say. Popular opinion is they close early to save money, well, giving the fact they DON'T take care of the park like they used to, when the rides go down now, it takes forever to get em back running. Hmm.. sounds like thier idea of saving money is taking away from the park that is suppose to be attracting us in the first place...:hammer:

You know, all this talk about shortened hours makes me wonder just how people here will react if a certain executive gets his way in the next few weeks...
