Are we being cheated?

Umm.. are you under the impression that running an attraction for longer hours keeps it healtthy and happy?

We can't do most maintenance during park hours.. AKA: If it breaks and it's not critical, we'll run the ride without it.

It does not take longer to open a ride on any given morning. You push a button, a motor whirrs and off you go. A few test runs, some safety checks and its all planned to take an exact amount of time. The time we closed the night before has nothing to do with it - unless you consider that closing early gives us more time to do routine maintenance.

So, if anything, you have it backwards.

Watching the fireworks explode over Cinderella Castle from Main Street USA is one of my favorite things to do. While I agree that Fantasmic and Illuminations are incredible, more complex fireworks spectaculars, the simple fireworks of the Magic Kingdom in my opinion are just as magical. If the fireworks are on, go see them.

Well, yes..

If they're on, go see them. I'm just saying you can always go see Illuminations instead. It runs every night, is never "crowded" like the other two, and by the reaction the public gives, a whole lot better.

I think MK's fireworks look better in techniclor on the old Wonderful World of Disney. I was really not impressed and had a perfect viewing spot.

Also, I watched a packed version of Fantasmic and kept wondering "Why did I walk all the way over here for this?" because the show is mostly a menagerie of Disney characters and is highly repetative. "Lets get Mickey!" one by one from the Disney villians. Oh god, someone shoot me. From an artistic standpoint - that was really stupid.

Plus, seeing Epcot's first explosions on the horizon getting more "ooo's and ahh's" from the audience at Fantasmic than the show itself is definate poetic justice.

if $3.00 for a can of coke, or $7.00 for a hamburger, or $2.50 for the most abundent resource on earth (water) is ok, then the answer is NO WE ARE GETTING CHEATED!

I can think of one better than that, which were the mass cheers and that were a regular occurence during Sorcery in the Sky. I've got to admit, that is the one of only two shows Disney has ever done that made me look up and say "Holy ****!" The other being Iluminations '88.

You know, one of the most pathetic things I have ever seen in my life was an ODV cart at Epcot selling a $2.50 bottle of water when a water fountain was less than 50 feet away in clear view. THE most pathetic thing I have ever seen was the people actually waiting in line to buy it!

>>>oh I will bite pheniex<<<

I think AV posted some info about this over at the DIS. To maintain what little dignity I have I will refrain from posting the gory details until the decision is much closer to being made.

Um...Fantasmic! is very popular and most people love it, myself included. I'm not really sure how it is repetitive...they just want to show a lot of Disney characters, and most people going to Disney entertainment park want to see the characters. As for prices being higher now...not to step on your toes, but I think the only thing that has not gone up in price during that time is Wendy's Dollar Menu...it's called inflation. As for more attractions, judging from the fact that there has been a new park in the past five years, suffice it to say there are more attractions. What exactly has closed that has not been replaced? (I'll give you 20K, but that has been closed for almost ten years...).

As I have said before, it is simply impractical to keep the parks open late every night, and as for rides being broken down for extended periods...um...would you like to point out a single ride to me that has been broken down for a long time? Splash Mountain was closed for a month and a half...but that was for repainting and work on the A-As...so it wasn't broken. Maelstrom will be closed for three months, which, I admit, is a while, but this ride also needs a lot of work. I will admit the parks are not as clean as they used to be, but the rides are kept to the same, if not better, safety standards--Disney would be shut down if they weren't. There are no deathtraps on property.

Finally, allow me to reiterate, disney reducing hours during the off-season is NOTHING NEW. They have been doing this for YEARS.

I buy the water just for the bottle.. and the lanyard :)

I do go about the fountains refilling the bottle throughout the day.

I like bottled water...it's colder than water from the drinking fountain and you can take it with you...and you can fill the bottle w/ water from the drinking fountain afterwards. When it's 95 out with high humidity like it is now, running b/t drinking fountains doesn't cut it...

DL's Fantasmic is one of Disney's best shows, and the WDW version isn't bad, even though it pales in comparison to the original.

>>>it's called inflation<<<

Disney's price increases have outpaced inflation by a large margin.

>>>What exactly has closed that has not been replaced?<<<

20K, Oddysey Restuarant, Skyway, Discovery Boat Cruise, River Country, Backstage Pass (soundstage tour), Tomorrowland Stage (I think, someone can correct this if I'm mistaken), Keel Boats, etc. Do you want me to include attractions at Disneyland? That list is quite long...

>>>would you like to point out a single ride to me that has been broken down for a long time?<<<

DL's Splash Mountain, the Matterhorn, Test Track...

>>>but the rides are kept to the same, if not better, safety standards<<<

Tell that to the guy who DIED at the Columbia, or the guy who DIED at Splash Mountain (not a maintenance issue, but an employee issue, but that is still a problem), or to the DOZENS or people who have been mutilated at Spaceship Earth.

I thought it sucked for several years until I gave it a second chance this May. Alright, I'll admit it, it also gets the "Holy ****!" award, but it didn't have the effect on me like the original did.

>>>Almost everyone who has been hurt on SE was doing what they were told specifically not to.<<<

I can think of several accidents in the loading area due to the poor design and low lighting, and they all happened to cast members or guests who were not doing anything wrong.

No, these were little boats that ran around the river while a CM told various stories and/or jokes. One of them was recently auctioned off.

Okay, the loading area of SE is a design flaw.. but it's a design flaw.. nothing maintenance can fix.

Lets not forget my favorite..

But the thing is, they KNOW that this is a problem and have done NOTHING to correct it. Even worse is the fact that they waste time and money putting up some screens in the hopes that some f***head doesn't jump out and get hurt while innocent, rule abiding people are getting hurt. Just crazy.
