Are CM's under any form of "gag order"?

I was just curious, are the CM's allowed to speak freely about their jobs, or are they under an agreement of some sort with Disney to remain "hush hush" about what they do? If so, are there different levels? Meaning, is a food vendor allowed more speaking freedoms than a Friend Of Mickey?

I'm sure the higher level you are the more hush you have to be. At TDS we have really no restrictions like this. If you are going to say something bad as a CM you should be discreet and never reveal personal data or information about yourself or others.

It really does...and when it's made right it is some of the best PC around. If you really want to know the ingredients you can walk up to a PC wagon and ask to see the menu of ingredients. All wagons should have a copy.

I'm a popcorn snob. Refuse to eat microwave popcorn and actually believe movie theater popcorn is a vicious creation. Popcorn should NEVER make you as sick as that stuff can.

But this last time at WDW we got popcorn from the vendor in front of the hat at Hollywood Studios, and I have to admit that vendor rivaled my own popcorn (which I do believe to being the best in the world...such snobbery, I know). It was amazing! I had heard that they don't pop their corn in the actual carts, but this was VERY hot and I would swear it was popped just before we got ours. I have heard they "enhance" the amount smell also.

Thanks for the answers! I think some of these answers are serious. :ROFLOL:

This is going to possibly make things a little tougher for me. But thank you!

(Though between me and you, they can talk about just about everything, it's not a huge secret that people work for Disney in Orlando. )

Of course they can talk about their jobs. The only employees who are held to strict confidentiality standards work in the legal department.

However, most companies would rather its employees not discuss certain aspects of their job, and unfortunately employees can be fired by revealing too much or being negative. Disney is no exception, and I'm sure it's no worse than other companies.

Exactly. It's just standard business practice to not discuss/disclose "company secrets" or proprietary information. When CMs log onto the Cast Hub (company intranet), information will be marked as to whether it can be freely shared with the public or not.

Then there are things like the monorail accident, where the CMs are under an order by the NTSB not to discuss certain aspects about the accident, procedures, systems, etc with the general public and the media.

Cool. I got the idea to try doing a book made up of interviews with cast members. On our recent trip it really struck me just how much those people are the whole "magic" of the place. I think there are probably some fascinating stories out there. My wife doesn't agree with me, but she doesn't have the same interest in "behind the scenes" types of things like I do.

My only "memory" of working at disney (besides burning myself with grease from a pan of cooked turkey legs... not fun...) ... is the training. The training class is enjoyable, you learn a lot... and its interactive. I won a t-shirt for being able to name the 9 (back in 97/98) disney movies with 1 word titles.

Why would that be? Because they run the internal workings of Disney?

in reality.. they can talk.. but they also signed a non disclosure agreement... All themeparks that I know of are now requiring new hires to sign a NDA... (Even Busch Entertainment... )

I know the BEC one says you canot do anything.. but if your sly you can, as long as your not giving the company a bad light... with disney they are probably less strict unless your on a new attraction or project.. that or posting on a board about guests who are not the brightest :lookaroun

it varies from person to person job to job division to division... but technically most new hires sign a NDA just for Disney to cover their butts if they wish to enforce it.
