Are changes coming to Florida passholder program?

It's sad that more people don't realize that. There are great museums.. Great "teachable moments". My son developed a love for lighthouses whole in KW, he's also semi obsessed with the overseas railroad (I modified the story a bit) and it opened up the door to learn about Flagler and Florida's history of development... And of course- pirates and ship wrecks! Most of all marine life though, I'm an avid diver..I took him to Dry Tortugas for his first "big" snorkeling trip..I can't wait til he is old enough to dive!!

I'm jealous of your residence..I love Whitehead St!!

Ok sorry.. Back on topic.

If you ask my daughter where her favorite place to vacation is, it is generally a "I can't decide between Key West and Disney World."
I wish I could like this a million times!!!

Us 3 need to be the "welcoming committee" when people book a DCL cruise, with a Key West stop, and say "there's nothing to do while in port!" Or completely discount KW as a vacation destination because they think it isn't family friendly. ;).

Amazing!!! I know this is taken on the opposite side, but we had a view of your house while up here ;).
Oh what I would give for some Blue Heaven right now.
I love that island so much.
Great Photo! Yes you would have looked right down on our place...which was built before 1912 as a grocery store...we have actually found it on the old fire maps prior to 1900...

Two things...

1: don't think of it as paying a penalty, think of it as not having to plan your route to work and when you can grocery shop around tourists. You also get an economy -not- based around everyone else's travel plans and mosquito/gator/whatever fears.

2: because I'm so close to Disney, I'm sure Disney wants to make sure I'm spending my weekends (and money) on them. The discount exists to try and keep me from going somewhere else.

You do have good points. I was amazed at the traffic on 535 the few times I ventured out during what would be considered evening rush hour and true enough about the tourist based economy.

I've often wondered if we lived within a several hour drive of WDW how often we would go.

Please do! Disney fans in Key West thread ;)

We did wear our Disney ponchos all week when we were there last September, storms pretty much every day. I was determined not to let some bad weather slow us down.
That would be fun to be Key West Goodwill Emmisaries for Disney Fans... Meet the Disney ships when they come in...How can we spin this into a business...lol

Ha ha. I sold Timeshare in Key West, so I did greet a lot of people, and made my money from the tourists. ;)
What's worse is a lot of my friends own stores on Duval..it's amazing what people will pay for a tee shirt with a decal on it! And people think WDW merchandise is a "rip off"?? Lol

But at least they'd have the choice, which they wouldn't have if Disney managed the demand via a blanket resort-wide blockout.

That's not true for everyone. I was a local for several years and I went all the time without Fastpasses, as did all of my friends (various levels of passholders, including some CMs). I experienced Test Track 2.0, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, and New Fantasyland without any FPs.

Not sure about timelines but was this before or after the full implementation of Fastpass+?

I ask because I remember a time not too long ago where attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Spaceship Earth and others all had wait times that ranged from walk-on to 20 minutes which now routinely have wait times that climb, even though the people in physical line aren't that great. Why Fastpass+.

Prior to the "+" fastpass wasn't all that essential to an enjoyable visit. Once the added it to nearly everything and started pushing it hard online, it totally changed the landscape.I have my doubts that it was entirely by design but the reality we are in has effectively created a class system in the parks that is very clear: People staying on property (who booked at least 2+ months out) and everyone else.

We were all worried about how they might give on-site guests a larger number of fastpass+ options per day. Turns out, that 60 day vs. 30 day was all they needed to do.

Theres a couple different things to think about here:
1. Theme park annual passes continue to be a huge value compared to most other forms of top-tier entertainment. I just checked season tickets for the Magic and they are $1,300 for upper deck and between $5-7k for lower bowl.

2. Consumer trends have changed big time in the last 10 years, away from material items and towards experiences. As a result the prices of ALL tourist attractions have gone up a lot (look at the Flash Pass at Six Flags which cost like $5 when it first came out not that long ago and $100 now lol).

3. Disney World is not meant to be a place for locals to go hang out, its an international tourist destination. Yes the prices used to be way more affordable because during slower times of year tourism wasn't as strong, but now that cheer/dance/sports teams/brazillians etc fill up the non busy times obviously they are not as desperate for attendance so prices go up.

4. Florida, and Orlando specifically, continues to have a big population boom as middle class and affluent people from other areas of the country move there to escape the rising taxes and cold weather where they are from. Look at all the $300,000+ homes that are popping up all around the parks. More people + higher incomes = higher prices.

The fact of the matter is that companies are going to do what makes them the most money. You wonder why a cheeseburger cost $10? Because the $10 cheeseburger sells like crazy. And thats not only WDW thats every other crappy amusement park, sports venue, etc have similar prices. Iger and Chapek don't get paid based on whether people on DISboards like them or not.

Except that's not true and it's been proven over and over again that day of guest have access to all but a single digit number of experiences.

POTC had hour long waits at times in the 90's, before any FP system. HM could get up 30-45 minutes easily during the summer. SM would get to 2 hours just a few hours after park opening. Let's not rewrite history here.
