Am I the only one concerned about the future power that Steve Jobs may have over Disney?
I'll let it be known that I do not like Apple and have never owned an ipod. I would hate to see Apple stores pop up in the parks. That sounds ridiculous, but we just got one in our student union(took the place of a coffee shop).
Anyway Steve Jobs already has some control over whats going on at Disney. The Disney retail stores are supposed to be implementing Apple technology and and so far Itunes has a lock on Disney content. (there are no Disney or ABC shows or movies on Zune.)

So I'm asking if you think they Steve Jobs will have more power over what goes on in the parks and resort and if so how do you feel about that?

Well, THIS will be interesting.........

Personally, as a Disney stock holder for nearly 25 years (and I'm only 31 years old) I am GLAD that Steve Jobs is a part of Disney. There is no doubt, from a business perspective, that the man is a genius. I have no knowledge of his power or lack thereof at Disney. I've heard a few things, but have no facts to back them up.

But, in full disclosure, this is being posted from my Macbook, and if it weren't it would be posted from my Iphone.....(aaaaaand, I might also own a little Apple stock - wish THAT was from 25 years ago!).

You will see Disney and Apple partner in some things, like music, movies and books in iTunes, and the iPad controlling parts of the new Disney store. You will never see an Apple store in Disney parks. You may see an Apple showcase, exhibit or sponsored place in EPCOT,but that's about it for theme parks.

I,as a shareholder, appreciate Jobs being part of the company and what he can bring to the table, and what Disney can use Apple for, which as I strive to use Apple products more,is great.

You've got to remember that he is on the board of directors, not running a branch in the company. So while he does have some pull,it's not as much as an executive.

Yeah as far as stock holders are concerned I can see Steve Jobs being on the board as a positive. I have been following the Dis stock for awhile now, after I get out of school and get settled I plan on investing.

but I guess I'll just enjoy WDW in its current state before it gets all hip in the apple image.

Yes, he is the largest shareholder with I believe 7% of shares. I guess I will take your word for it, that it won't have much influence on the parks. I love WDW the way it is. Now I will just hold out hope that I will be able to buy Disney content in the Zune store and that Marvel doesn't tie itself down to the ipad.

In all honesty, as you start investing you'll find that you will probably invest more in mutual funds and less in single stocks. But when I graduated from college everyone was starting to get an Ipod and then everyone HAD an Ipod, and all of the sudden all of my friends were getting Macbooks (anyone else remember those candy colored & clear/white ones?) - and not just my friends who needed them for advertising graphics. It wasn't too hard to figure out that Mac was making a big comeback. Only much later would I learn that was mostly due to Steve Jobs returning.

The Disney stock is the result of my wonderful grandparents, who never had very much, but LOVED Disney until their dying day - took each one of their 8 children & their familes there on a once in a lifetime trip (my family went in 1995). They gave each of their grandchildren a little Disney stock because of their love of and belief in all things Disney.

Go Team Apple. (to a certain extent)

The more popular it gets, the more hackers will be trying to ruin the bubble we operate in. Right now its not worth the time to create bugs for Apple Computers because of the Apple to PC rate.

I have a Desktop, MacBook Pro and an ipod, no iPhone because AT&T doesnt have the service Verizon has, probably never will. The Droid Eris picked up that slack for me though, just waiting for an iTunes app, not that I jam to my phone, ever really.

What if you could buy a MacBook with Mickey's head in place of the Apple? Would ya? ;)

No I wouldn't. I literally have a Mac phobia.

I did finally think of a benefit to Steve Jobs working with Disney...Maybe the websites will ditch flash and finally get everyone on board with HTML5.
I guess they could make some technological advancements in the parks too, but hopefully better than the iphone. I feel like running a theme park requires multitasking.

Steve Jobs is the largest individual stockholder. There are plenty of institutional holders who own a larger percentage of the company.

Steve jobs has had an interest in the company since Disney did the stock trade with pixar and acquired it... you are just now afraid?

The fact the new Disney stores are using ipod Touchs for checking people out is because the product works well, possibly better than the Microsoft product that even the apple store was previously using before developing their own.

You may see an apple store at Down Town Disney (if they ever do it maybe even just a tiny one where you can have their techs fix a problem) but never see it in a park.

They may have had the contract with itunes because at the time it was around, when the others were brand new and not really used at the time

I have been concerned with it for awhile now, but even more so because I fear that Itunes will get exclusives with Marvel. I guess that I'm less concerned about the actual parks now that I have read the responses.

As far as Apple making a superior products, I guess its a preference thing. I can see what people like about them and I know why I prefer the products I use more.

If you like Apple products or dont like Apple products, you have to step back and look at it non bias and without prejudice. I would just say look at the phenomenon of Apple products since his influence in the late 90's and look at their stock prices.

My point is, they must be doing something right. His leadership and ideas have hit more then missed. From an innovation stand point, the guy is a genius.

That doesnt mean he could run a theme park, but his ideas in the background cant hurt.... if they asked him.

You may see more apple tech show up in the parks, but that is just because they make a superior product.
Once you go Mac you never go back

I don't know where to start with this one. I really don't. I give up. This thread and it's daunting task of trying to fact-correct is going to drive me insane. I'm going to go do homework...

As a former Apple employee and now Disney employee I hope that they throw an Apple Store in downtown and maybe some Apple tech in the parks. I actually met the head of IT for Disney the other day and he said Disney is using more and more Macs..... (Of course I had to pimp myself as a former Apple Genius to him) lol

On another note...I HIGHLY doubt there will be a store in the actual Parks...

I really wish I bought Apple stock way back as well :( I have some for being an employee, but not as much as I would like...lol
