Anyone Here Own a Kindle?

Unfortunately, I have over 800 volumes in my personal library now, and simply no more room for any new ones (unless I got a divorce first ). So I'm willing to try something new for the sake of reading and my marriage. :)

I have the same problem, so my husband gave me a kindle for Christmas. I love it, especially the fact that when I run out of books, I can just download another. And I can have hundreds of books sitting in my purse at one time. I did purchase an m-edge cover that was offered on Amazon for around $30. It is much nicer (for the price) than I expected, and much more reasonably priced than the leather ones I saw for sale.

Thanks Mom! :sohappy:

Well, thank you all for your advice and input. I think I'm off to Amazon to shop for a Kindle 2 and the requisite accessories......

You could always donate some to Goodwill so that some other lucky souls can feel the warmth of a well-loved book.

I have, when both my mother and father-in-law passed away. But so many of them are non-fiction works (or textbooks) that A. I don't think many people would be interested in; and B. Were pretty bloody expensive to begin with (especially the texts) and I'd hate to part with them. But it is a thought for down the road.

Kindle? Is that because the best thing for it is a source for helping with the ignition and spread of fire?

I don't know. I keep looking to see if I can light my cigars with it, but no dice so far....

I do like it however. No problems reading it, and my bookshelves gave a collective sigh of relief when it arrived....

Luckily we have several bookshelves in the airing cupboard, and as a one time printer I believe in the traditional method of books

iPad. Pwnd.:lookaroun:lol:

Came out literally one day after I ordered the Kindle. But even the basic model would be almost twice the price of the Kindle 2, and then you have to may for the 3G service as well, which is free for the Kindle. Besides, I have an IPhone, which can make calls and take pics.....:)

True, I think you made the better choice.

Although I am seriously thinking about the iPad for school uses, too.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea, and the fact that the IPad has color makes it very enticing. For me, the price they're asking just wasn't quite in line with what the IPad offers. But I'll tell you, being able to get ebooks (even texts) for much less then their paper brethren, makes either option a winner. I bought a book on DDay for $9.99 that normally goes for $31 (hardback). I can't wait to see what savings I could get for my textbooks when the times comes.....

LOVE LOVE LOVE my kindle. It is my favorite gadget right now. I really thought I would miss the feel of a real book in my hands, but as The Mom said, it is wonderful having a boat load of books in my purse at all times. I am the type who reads more than one book at a time and it is hard to carry more than one or two books around for any length of time. Congrats on your kindle purchase. I think you made a wise choice and that you will love it.

Having seen the ipad, there should be two separate markets for the features.

Sometimes you just want to read a book. :D

More importantly, the person to whom I gave a Kindle for a present said she's still very happy with it after seeing the ipad. :)

Right, it's going to be GREAT, in that respect.
