Anyone driving down?

DW and I will be packing up the car and making the 14 hour ride to Disney next Friday from Delaware. Does anyone know what the gas prices are like around I-95 in South Carolina and Georgia?

This is also our honeymoon (getting there is half the fun, right?), are there any special side trips to look out for?

FYI - Oil is currently at $104 a barrel, not $93 like it was earlier in the week. I wouldn't look for gas to drop too much over the next few weeks. I know it went up $.06 this week here in western PA.

+1 on gas buddy.

Just a thought . . . if you're using GPS, you can find local gas stations that will be far enough off of I-95 to forgo the "travelers markup" that the highway stations can usually get.

Have a safe drive!

OK maybe it is just another lie my parents told me but I could have sworn that gas stations were required to make at least a certain amount of money on every gallon of gas?

As for the PS3 and the 360- it isn't sony and microsoft that use the systems as loss leaders, it is the stores. I used to work at best buy and I can assure you that the store paid only 50 cents less than the consumer did and then had to pay people to do the check out and the stocking and the transportation and such. On a side note- the other big loss leader is anything in media, especially new releases the week of the release.

We will be driving down in January from Northern Virginia. We drive 8 hours the first day, and about 6 the second. Checked the gas buddy.com site and Orlando gas is around $3.65 right now. I hope it comes down some before. :animwink:

WOW! Just wanted to know what the gas situation was! I know the oil companies are ripping us off, but that fact isn't going to stop us from driving. Maybe we should funnel this frustration to CNN, MSNBC, or better yet, CONGRESS and the PRESIDENT. Seems that none of these fat cats are sweating filling up the family car.

As for the convenience stores, we stock up at the local Wal-Mart for snacks and drinks before even hit the road.

I'll be driving from Louisiana in just under three weeks (I sooooooooo can't wait!! :D). I'm very curious about how gas prices will be along I-10 and 1-75, and I do plan on checking online before I leave.

Funny, we got hit pretty hard by Gustav and got a few inches of rain from Ike, but our gas prices never hit $4 (for regular). There was one bit of price gouging (a station jacked prices up to $5 just before Gustav hit), but a visit from the local PD changed his mind. Now, we have had a gas shortage in the area with all the locals trying to stay fueled and all the evacuees coming through our area.

Still, I'm quite happy to be driving rather than flying.

I am just happy to be flying down. My husband had enough ff miles to pay for my ticket and since we are going to stay an extra week for his business, they paid for his ticket. That meant that we only had to pay for our sons tickets. All in all we paid $125 for our travel! With gas prices what they are I doubt we could have gotten there any cheaper in our car- but we would have lost a lot of time (and patience with our son!)

Only 61 more days!

We're driving down from northern Maine. We live at the end of I-95. Last exit before Canada!

We will be traveling with our 15 month old so we're planning on leaving home Nov. 21st and not planning on getting to Florida (beach first, Disney second) until Nov. 25th.

Instead of driving straight through or making really long days of it, we're just going to take our time. It'll cost more with hotels, but WE'RE ON VACATION! Haha! Who cares! :p

We're more like go with the flow kind of people and if our little one needs to stop and take a break or not travel as far one day, then we'll just call it a day. No biggie.

After spending 4-5 nights on the beach (over Thanksgiving to avoid the holiday crowds at Disney), we're going to check into our condo for 2 weeks before heading home.

Altogether we'll be gone for about a month!:sohappy::sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:

Thanks for trying! CNN is scaring the crap out of me today. "NO GAS IN SOUTHERN CITIES"

This is true- gas is very hard to find in some areas in the South, with no end in sight. Where you can get it they are limiting it- people are actually fighting over it with lines backing up for over an hour. It is insane so if you are coming through get it where you can!
We have 1/4 of a tank.:brick:

The availability is what's concerning me, not so much the price. I'll be driving in about two weeks along I-10 and I-75, so if anyone knows the situation along that route, I'd love to hear it. And I'm hoping everything will even out before I hit the road.
