Women and African Americans would probably argue your "best years of the country" bit.
Because most people (maybe it's different for you) don't get their feeling of validation by comparing themselves to others. /QUOTE]
Yet that is how negotiations, enticement, and justification works.
Wage inflation is not something you can implement in isolation when talking about the minimum wage.
You won't be able to attract people with wages that don't account for their relative value in the market.
It's not about people's feelings - it's about supply/demand
So to get the thread back on track here then...
Given the recent comments about CM pay and such, is Iger really worth what he's getting and if he were to shell out a little more to the lowest paid CMs, would that help to boost profits (A happy CM will have guests going home and telling their friends to visit)? Is he running the parks the way he should? Would a few years of re-investing some profit back into refurbing rides and such be better right now to give a better product which could in turn, make him have an even bigger payday?
You see some of the posts on certain social media and you will see there is a considerable number of bitter CMs behind their smiles.I will say this again. Paying the CMs more will not make them happier, more knowledgable about the parks, nicer, or all around provide a better experience for us. Back in the 80s Disney had a reputation of hiring retired school teachers, etc.... And that is where the quality came from. No offense to the current CMs but when most of them have priorities that are still about partying and being cool, texting about last nights episode of the kardashians, more pay will not change that.
Again, it's about who they hire, not how much they pay them.
Right. But back then there were a lot less positions to fill. Disney could afford to be picky. Now they just have a quota to fill.I will say this again. I think it's up to 73000 now.I'm sure. Disney employs something like 60k of people? I'm sure some of them didn't get their way, was wronged by Disney, and feels the need to complain. You know kind of like this forum, when we see trash on the ground on Disney property. People can't just suck it up anymore. When I have a bad day at work, I don't post negative things about my empolyeer seeking any validation that I'm right and the evil bosses are wrong.

I personally went from 78k a year to over 120k just through hard work on my behalf. Having an above average education speaks volumes if you know how to apply yourself.
Go Bobby!
More importantly... How they treat them and the work environment they maintain. More money doesn't make people enjoy work more... It simply makes them more tolerant of negative things about work.
When EPCOT opened they were paying $11 for parking lot attendants and $14 for food service people, This was at a time when the minimum wage was 3.25/Hr
Small wonder WDW managed to be selective in their hiring and got good people who were motivated to do a good job.
Southwest has the HIGHEST paid employees of any airline and gee people WANT to fly with them and they get the best people in the industry as well. Costco is another example.
Once again the iron law of economics holds, You get what you pay for.
Contrast this to todays WDW where the only standard for hiring is CP, L1A visa or recent immigrant who will take low wages.
