Anybody else excited about Magic Bands?

I like the idea of the bands, so yes I am excited since that was your actual question. This will mean I won't even have to carry my wallet in the parks...I am a bit of a minimalist. The OP didn't ask if you were excited about Fastpass+, they aren't tied together, even if they didn't make the Magic Bands, they would have done the Fastpass+ and linked it to your KKTW Card.

You took my comment, "they're more durable than you think" as harsh??? LOL Are you that sensitive? It is in no way a harsh comment.

Haha no, I just didn't want to quote the entire thing , It's too long and I thought it would be obvious to you like anyone else. I'll edit it now though considering you have a problem with it.

GOOfydad: "Who cares?? Why is everyone so bent out of shape about ANYONE tracking your movements and spending habits? Why does it matter? What could Disney possibly do with that information that would infringe on your basic human rights? "Oh my God! Disney knows that I bought a Mickey Bar at 3:05PM on July 4th, 2013. I'm doomed!" Really?"

I sorta do. I am a rule follower and wouldn't care if Disney dispatched a secret agent mouse to follow me all day.
That being said this is an open door that is very difficult to close and no matter how inane the information they collect, it's MY information.

I wonder if people would be as willing to be "tracked" if it were their employer who asked them to wear a bracelet for a week to 10 days just to see where you are and how you spend your time and money.

I certainly wouldn't want to wear one for work. Why would I ever entertain wearing one on vacation?

I'm on the 'negative' side of the ledger on this as well, mainly for the FP+ limitations and the potential it will have to interfere with how I do the parks. The fact that it's costing 2 billion (that's 2 billions that isn't going to rides, infrastructure, etc) doesn't help either.

I'm a fl resident and it really irritates me about the 60 day out. I don't plan my vacations to the world so far out. I go all the time. Just the the dining, I always have a very difficult time getting dining.

I will wear one of these bands, it will stay on and not fall off, I may only get 3 FPs per day but that is just life, none of my personal info will be on the band, and Disney can track my movements all day long. :D It would be nice if people would stop doom and glooming about these bands just because Disney has not spent the $2 billion on what they assume it should have been spent on. I don't give others a ton of BS because they don't like the bands. I just don't like it when the bands are portrayed as the end of free will and the death of Disney.

Its not so much the data tracking that bothers me. Its the fact that they try to sell it as something that will "enhance" my vacation experience. It will not. It only serves to enhance THEIR experience in treating the average guest like a $ sign and not a person. I would respect it more if they flat out said, "this is going to help us make more money". I understand its a business and the point is to make a profit. Don't pee on me and then tell me its just rain. WDW was once (long ago) ran by people who wanted to make profits but actually cared how they went about it. Ideas such as quality and pride going hand in hand actually meant something. Could they have made more money using other financial models? Yes, but I feel they believed more in setting themselves apart from the average business by catering more to their guests and not their wallets. Look at the price increases in the last decade compared to the increases from 1985-1995. @ParentsOf4 has broken it down nicely several times. They have become OBSESSED with only making money and spewing out a few polished turds every now and then to keep the masses happy. Whether its blue ocean strategy or just plain old greed, the entire MM+, NGE, is wrapped in a nice pretty package and being sold to us as a magical experience we must have, when in actuality it is subterfuge at its finest. You are being led down the primrose path. These people in charge will no doubt jump ship when their deceitful ways are exposed and the mess will be left to be cleaned up by those who actually care, hopefully it wont be too late by then.

That's exactly what I've been saying! They can take their MagicBand and shove it where the sun don't shine.

I don't have a problem with it. If people want to look on this NGE thing as the end all doom to Disney then fine. More power to them. I'll sit back, and either go to Disney with a magic band or go elsewhere. But I am not going to sit around and impotently gripe about something that will not change. The Disney company is just that, a company. They have ALWAYS been about making money, even when Walt was alive. Anyone that says otherwise is a fool. The difference is HOW they are making that money. These days there are different minds in charge than in the previous decades. Hopefully that will change and we will see a return of board members that decide the best way to increase profits is to increase guest satisfaction in the parks. Until then, we can go or not go. I choose to go, for now.

Of course, they are about making money, but at one point it was a mutually beneficial relationship. They delivered a great product and many of us handed them our money gladly. I don't see how NGE is beneficial to me as a customer at all. Add this to the fact that there have been cuts everywhere that they eye can see while they are still raising prices makes me choose not to go for now. And that just makes me sad.

I think Magic Bands and the merchandising around it are marketing genius, but I wonder if it may all be too much for people who are used to simply buying a ticket and not thinking about it anymore. It reminds me of this "Deep Thought" by Jack Handey:

"Instead of raising your hand to ask a question in class, how about individual push buttons on each desk. That way, when you want to ask a question you just push the button and it lights up a corresponding number on a tote board at the front of the class. Then all the professor has to do is check the lighted number against a master sheet of names and numbers to see who is asking the question."

Then again, we've all gotten used to our phones being more than just phones, so maybe Disney is on to something here.

My phone is just a phone....it makes and receives calls, and occasionally text messages.
