Anybody else excited about Magic Bands?

On the whole, not excited.

Fastpass+ / mousecollars / NegtGen initiatives do not derive from a company focused on improving guest experience. But from a cynical money machine intend on squeezing every last penny out of its customers.

New tech could seriously improve the guest experience though. I'll keep an open mind, and do expect some benefits.

I would say that I am excited - I too would like my band in purple. We are not seasoned at Fast pass and park hopping and think that planning only 3 before we arrive would be just fine. I do understand that it may not be great for others that have their plans that work for them but I am hoping to use these in November for sure.

I think I'm excited. Also a fan of new technology (can't say I'm always up on it, or know how to use it LOL, but i'm kind of looking forward to it) For me personally 3 is fine, but I can understand why some don't feel that way. There is so many things being said about the magic bands that it can be a bit confusing, but certainly excited and curious about them. Hopefully later this year I'll be able to visit Disney and try it out. Hoping for November.

There is absolutely nothing I look forward to with the bands. I won't ever wear one, I detest the FP+ restrictions and think the 60 (+10) day prebooking is absurd, especially for locals. In fact, not only am I not "excited" by it, I loathe the entire concept. (But Miss M, tell us how you really feel? ;))

I like new tech and I like the potential of the new bands (ticket/pass/key/credit charger all-in-one) and how they can carry limited information for interaction with rides, CMs and characters.

For my family, 3 FP+ in one park is fine - there is so much to do in each of the parks that, except for AK, I wouldn't even see the point with the hopper. It's great that some folks can commando their way through multiple FPs and parks, but that's just not something my family would want to do.

I am relatively indifferent to the band itself... If I get it, it will still be going into my bag the same as any card would. People can claim they are comfortable all they want, but I just don't feel like having a sweaty wrist and a stupid looking tan line.

The reason I won't get the band is if I have to get FP+ without being able to access regular FP (so long as it continues to exist). 3 FP is measley. I average 6-10 a day and no amount of time of being able to reserve early (if it is an avantage at all) will ever trump being able to get way more than 3 FP in a day without FP+

Nope, I don't like what they are and what they represent. I am not excited to the point that we are planning an Orlando vacation in October WITHOUT visiting WDW which is something I didn't think would ever happen. I don't like the concept of FP+ at all. From my limited understanding, it's not like you can get 3 good fastpasses so you may end up booking Splash Mountain, Stitch's Great Escape, and the Enchanted Tiki Room - whoop-de-freakin'-do!

Seriously, I go on vacation to relax. I love to plan, but at some point it is just too much and the NGE/MagicBands/FP+ may be that tipping point for me. We just took an 9 day vacation including a 5 day cruise to Canada and a road tour of several New England states, and it took far less time booking and planning than a trip to Disney World (and was a heck of a lot cheaper, too). I think I am just going to have to sit out WDW for a while and see where this goes.

First of all - Love this comment:

To answer the OP's question: Not me.

Why?

Well it has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that Magic Bands come along with this little piece of skullduggery called FastPass+ which as we all should know by now, has this even bigger piece of skullduggery attached to it which limits you to 3 fast passes per day per park. I'm trying like he!! to wrap my mind around this concept and how they came to this "3" number and why they're trying to stick it to folks who park hop, but I can't seem to grasp it just yet.

All the other things that go along with Magic Bands, the RFID, the having to plan things 6 years in advance, even the RIDICULOUS t-shirt promotion (well maybe not that)...I can deal with.

The limit on fast passes with FastPass+ not soo much.

I agree with you, but something I'm realizing is (on our trip just a few weeks ago) we only averaged about 3 fast passes a day anyway. Do you usually get more?

The problem is that the choice of the three fastpasses might not all be E tickets. Like mentioned above, you might end up with Splash, Stitch and Tiki for example in a tiered grouping to pick from.

We need time for things to happen.

Absolutely. I mentioned it a couple of posts later. On a slow day we knock out more than 3. We're big time park hoppers. I can count on one hand out of all the years we've been going to WDW the number of times we stayed in 1 park. We're rope drop and usually out of the first park by 12-1.

I have to be honest...I was sooooo looking forward to a stay next October (2014) on booking a bounceback during our trip this coming September but I find myself more looking forward to a trip to St Thomas USVI to my all-time favorite dream (think "epic bucket list") to stay at the contemporary resort theme park view room next October in 2014.

It is with the greatest sadness that I am forced to admit this but DW and I were talking on our patio this afternoon and my usual frothing-at-the-mouth fanboi attitude has begun to wane into general malaise over the fact of needing to plan every single facet of our trip no less than 60 days out from departure in order to get the most out of our trip. We shall see during our trip this September what Disney has wrought but a vacation needs to be relaxing to have any value to me whatsoever and even with the usual 7-8 miles of walking per day I still enjoyed WDW prior to FP+ and I am finding myself questioning the uber high-dollar cost versus the return on investment of relaxation for my vacation dollar.

I will not argue my feelings so please do not try...I am deeply saddened that it has (or may) come to this but my inner child is feeling downtrodden/disheartened and my adult tendencies are beginning to see a different path...why oh why did it come to this?????

I am impressed! But, I have to ask HOW do you do that? LOL We get there when the parks open, but by 8 or 9... we're ready to go just out of sheer exhaustion (even my kids). We don't leave mid-afternoon like a lot do though, so maybe that's why.

I prefer simplicity in life. Park the car, travel to the entrance, slide the ticket, and do "stuff". ADR's, pre-planned Fastpasses, etc. are an Orwellian wet blanket to the spontaneity of a simple day at a theme park. To each their own, but I look back fondly to the olden days when I could just show up and spend a day at WDW without having to log the moments ahead of time. For me, these ever-changing times can be a bit of a killjoy.

Uni is so much fun and so laid back. I think Disney was trying to do that, to the best of their ability.

Instead, they've made it harder. More work, more appointments to keep - less fun.

Wish they'd just scrap the whole thing and cut their losses.

...reserve your ride time 60 days out...ugh.

While I think it is cool. But what was wrong with the Key to the World card? It is my food, charging, tickets, room key all in one. And, doesn't take a battery.
