Any new thunder mountain info?

For a soft opening, it looks very good. Let's give it a little more time to work things out. Who knows? There may be some pleasant surprises yet.

There's a good Bob Gurr interview that talks about how he consulted and eventually designed the Ursula animated figure for Toyko Disney Sea. In it he mentions that WDI tries to avoid placing mechanical elements above the audience. Sadly, with the current upkeep of the parks, some changes to OSHA work done above certain heights in confined spaces, and ultimately for the safety of the riders I highly doubt we will ever see elements like the falling rocks returning. They have deactivated several overhead/adjacent animated figures at Dinosaur, Buzz, Astro, IASW, and GMR simply because they could intrude into the path of a traveling vehicle.

If this why the planet central structure no longer rotates on Astro Blaster? I thought it was broken and was waiting for a refurb. If it is a permanent fix that it doesn't rotate...that is a serious shame...

B...bu...but the falling rocks is the earthquake. The earthquake is the mountain thundering angrily. The mountain's thunder is the ride's story. Thunder Mountain.

This is as silly as no Yeti on an expedition to find a Yeti.

Fix the Yeti! Re-install the rocks!

I was wondering that as well. They have not worked since March 2011 and some of the planets were completely removed in November 2011.

Benefit of the doubt until the official opening, but no falling rocks or bulging rocks? No flash flood effect?

The least we can hope for then is the holes in the rock work were patched and that the rainbow pools all work properly....

Thanks for posting the video and the pre video write up detailing the work done. The ride looks great, and it's nice to see some of the water effects working again.

For the people upset about not seeing some of the stuff that was rumored on the internet, what did you expect? It's the internet, where large numbers of people who have no idea at all what they are talking about, speculate and discuss like they are insiders. If the rumor doesn't come from a very, very reliable source (there are very, very few on here), then don't put any faith in it. Conversely, if Raven says there will be a 'kaboom'...there will be a 'kaboom'.

It's reasonable imho to complain/discuss concerns that are certain (we are quite certain there isn't a large moving boulder...damn), but for other things such as some more effects being added in the near future, I think it makes sense to at least wait until the soft opening is over before stressing too much. Can you say 'impatient'? :)

I didn't really have any expectations of new effects. I simply expect that all switched off or broken effects be fully restored when an extensive refurb happens. I expect a ride that has been closed for a major refurb to work as it was originally intended to work when it comes back online.

Does anyone know if they fixed the possums? I loved those little guys and they didnt work last time I went on

Apparently the babies are still gone. They were removed more than a year ago. Someone mentioned they are still gone and I didn't spot them in the video. :brick:

For any of you who have actually been through the queue....what, exactly, is the new "theme" of the queue within the building? Are the new doors and walls supposed to represent the mine offices? While the photos and video were nice, it's hard to tell where these new things are, and WHY they're there.

Also, does everything look "newer" to anyone else, or just me? I don't mean that it looks new because it IS new, but it doesn't look weathered or rustic like it all did before. Lots of shiny surfaces, which shouldn't be in there.

I guess I just need to see it in person to understand it.

It frustrates me that every time an attraction opens (or re-opens) people who *actually know* what is complete and what is not are told "but it's just soft open! Be patient!"

People - that is *not* how the real theme park world works. If there were major elements to install along the ride path still, the ride *would not be soft open.*

What you see IS what you get. This is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad 2012. Period. No speculation - pure and simple fact. Besides some interactive elements in the queue coming this fall the ride's rehab is complete. That's why it opened two days early, *because it is complete.*

Sorry that this is not what you want to hear. Simple fact is it's not what *I* want to hear either. But it's better to accept the truth than blindly convince yourselves otherwise and take an even harder fall when it comes to pass.

CSM, I share your frustration in ride elements being removed or inop pieces being pulled instead of being fixed, but soft openings are not necessarily as you're stating above. When there's a targeted date to hit, attractions can and do reopen in an incomplete state. I'm not saying that's what's happened on BTMRR, but it does happen. If vendors run out of time on specific work that does not affect the ride itself - which happens all the time due to a multitude of reasons - the ride can still soft open in order to open on schedule, while work is still being done at night or behind the scenes. Give it a couple of days to see if/what elements still may be put back in show (i.e., the waterfalls are off, but will of course likely be back. There may be projectors that aren't dialed-in yet, so aren't in-show. etc. etc.). In some circumstances, if there's no way to complete something in time or due to budgetary constraints for a refurb, it could even be planned for another phase down the road. Even major refurbs have to fit into certain numbers, i.e., budget and schedule, and it's not always possible to get everything in at once.

The wood railings definitely change the look. I tend to agree with you that they don't really belong if going by the original design guidelines. Edit: Taking a closer look, it's just the wooden railings at the downramp that seem to be out of place - the rest of the queue looks good, and as it should. Given some time, the lacquer on the wood at the ramp should age down, as well, even though it looks out of place now.

So after seeing this video, is it safe to say that the falling rocks are gone forever?

if so, then
