Are there any WDC-Stockholders here? I am thinking about buying a (symbolic) number of Disney-stock as soon as my financial situation allows it. I want to "own" at least a tiny bit of my dreamland. :) I would like to know however, how was the develpoment of the stock in the last years and do you have any advantages of being a disney stockholder.

There are many stockholders here, some have more than others.
There are no advantages such as discounts, etc. The stock has lost a great deal of it's value in the past few years, but it is more of a sentimental purchase for many and not a money making proposition. You can go to the Walt Disney Company and read up on it.

I initially received a single share as a gift to get the certificate. I've since bought more for investment purposes.

Of course you can buy a single share from a broker if you have one. If not, one option that has been around for some time is:
http://www.oneshare.com/index.aspx?CMP=KNC-Gbuystock&HBX_PK=single+share+stock&HBX_OU=50
Of course, they charge a real premium.

Here is another open option for you:

No, you don't get any special perks, discounts, pins, ears or whatever...just like most every other stock.

The stock has grown modestly and provides a dividend...but I'm not going to retire early by owning it.

Thanks for the informations and links. That's exactly what I want the stock for, more kind of sentimental reasons, at the moment at least, later perhaps also as an investment. I already asked my bank, I will buy at least a dozen as a beginning.

Exactly!
I've owned Disney stock for quite some time (a little more than 10 years) and I definitely haven't lost money overall. But as she said, it's more of a sentimental reason that I have it.

Though, if you're a regular guy looking for a real investment, stick with mutual funds instead of single stocks.

I never bought stocks, I am not looking primarily for an investment. I am just a far too sentimental thirtysomething who doesn't seem to grow up.:D

I've had stock since the day I was born thanks to my grandparents. More so than ever, the annual reports and stockholder information comes in handy!

Stockholder, both personally and through a family corporation. It's a long term investment for me.
