Another Uni. vs. Disney threads? Yes

Moulin Rouge came out 2 years after Episode I, and to be honest, that movie is worse than any of the prequels :p
It's a best picture nominee and one of the single best musicals ever made.

McGregor wasn't considered a good actor due to Star Wars. Transpotting, Moulin Rouge, and Big Fish are far better examples. Portman may have gotten noticed more for SW, but those three films are, to date, the black marks on her career. She was awful.

Uh, I don't think it's considered one of the best musicals ever made, and just because it got nominated for Best Picture doesn't automatically make it good. Does Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close ring a bell?

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was nominated because of the idiotic 10 nomination rule to fill in the gaps. Moulin Rouge was nominated when it was still a 5-nom pool. Far more credible nomination. It won a number of BAFTA and Golden Globe awards as well. In addition, the NBR awarded it the best film of 2001. It won numerous accolades from a number of different awarding bodies. It's a highly respected musical and one of the more cleverly directed films in the past 15 years. There's a level of both confidence and imagination in that film not even hinted at in the SW prequels.

Actually that was when the Academy made a new rule where it can have up to 10. You can have your opinion, but I hate Moulin Rouge.

Hate whatever movie you wish, but in terms of the general opinion judged by the test of time, Moulin Rouge has a far more favorable legacy. The Star Wars prequels, and IJ4 to a lesser extent, solidified George Lucas as a power hungry egomaniac. The only way fans will forgive him for those prequels is to release the original trilogy on Blu-Ray as they were seen in their theatrical releases.

Also, the 10-nomination rule was installed in 2009. The common belief was that The Dark Knight getting snubbed by The Reader was the reason behind it.

Yah, but the up to 10 rule was installed in 2011. Also, I recommend you guys watch the Nostalgia Critic's review of Moulin Rouge, then you'll see truly how bad it is.

I've watched it. Funny as it is, I side with everyone else that just loves it. I think it has 2-3 of the most inventively filmed musical numbers ever put on screen: El Tango de Roxanne, the Elephant Love Medley, and the entire introduction of the Moulin Rouge building set to Smells Like Teen Spirit.

The Red Letter Media reviews of the prequels are the most on-the-point, scathing reviews possible, and any preconceived notions of quality regarding those films are quickly destroyed.
