Another fatal crash on WDW property last night.

Although I haven't found anything on the web yet about it there was another fatal accident this morning on property.

Around 1:30AM I was outside behind Soarin' working and I heard sirens from every direction. All I could think was it must have had something to do with Grad Night at the Studios. But a co-worker this morning told me he heard it was on Epcot Center Drive and it involved a watercraft CM. :(

If anyone has more info or can find it please post a link. Thank you.

I just caught the last few seconds on news 13. 2 people were killed from the crash. They say one car may have been going in the wrong direction. Both cars caught fire and both drivers were trapped and killed. No other info yet.

Seems like they confirmed that a 50 year old man was driving in the wrong direction and they hit head on. So very sad...

Look.. I'm not saying that CM's are any worse than the tourists on driving, but they SHOULD be more responsible than some of them are..

Night before last I was leaving MK, and I had a CM TAILGATING me because I was doing the speed limit down center drive.. they were bobbing and weaving around, in and out of oncoming traffic.. flashing headlights at me, and overall driving dangerously... I know they may be late for their shift, but perhaps they should have left home earlier?

Anyone that has driven center drive knows that going too fast is a bad idea.. There can be many unpredictable things going on depending on the time of day...

Be more reponsible, thats all I ask

Why? Because they're cast members?

As much as we'd like to believe, Disney can't brainwash their CM's to be perfect, model, responsible citizens. They shoulda learned that in childhood.

How do you know that they were a cast member and not just a disgruntled guest or local?

World Drive was closed for a while last night re-routing traffic due to Grad Night. That could've had something to do with it. Also, Disney roads are very confusing. Sometimes working around the toll boths at Epcot late at night many guests wonder into the lot not knowing how to get back to their hotel. I've seen many approach the booths then turn around and head the wrong way down a one way into oncoming traffic. It's sad to say but this is a very common thing to happen.

As for the CM in the crash, we don't know if it was his fault. Disney CMs are made up of all kinds of people. But guests are also from everywhere as well and could've been the ones responsible for the crash.

How do you know that they were a cast member and not just a disgruntled guest or local?

News travels fast on the radio. Most managers get randoms broadcasts from security about things like this when they happen. 3rd shift managers deal mostly with the road crews (sweeper and tanker trucks) and cleaning crews and are very often around other CMs when the call comes in. And news like that is a safety issue and they will most likely share it with us tonight in order to keep everyone driving safe on the roads.

This appears it might have happen on the west bound entry to Epcot off of Center Dr. I have actually encountered this with a guy who was drunk or drugged. Me, left lane and right next to me a Disney Bus leaving me no where to go but forward... all of a sudden a pickup truck comes charging around that huge curve right at me in my lane. I hit the gas to get ahead of the bus and into the right lane and right after that the guy in the truck speeds onto the grass, turns around and heads back into epcot and wizzes right past the parking booths and into the Epcot parking area. Security came out of the woodwork and gingerly followed the guy (who had parked and gotten out of his truck and started staggering to the Epcot entrance) I was entering following the guy as well from a great distance. Orange County Sheriffs were waiting for him underneath the monorail station.

I have a feeling this is going turn into a who is a worse driver thread the cm's or the tourists. I have to say no matter what there are cm's and toursists who are bad drivers and shouldnt have licenses but they do so lets just feel for the familys of those who lost their lives.

I just learned that it was a fellow watercraft castmember (the victim). Somehow, we'd never met, but the whole watercraft family is obviously very sad at the moment.

RIP Captain:(

The roads can be very confusing there...you have to always be aware. I feel like I'm always being tailed when I am looking for where I need to be going around WDW. Don't know if it's locals or tourists - either way it doesn't matter. I try to be extra careful. This is never a good thing to hear about. :(

Yes, because they are cast members, they know the property better than a tourist, and they tourists are GOING to do 'crazy things'.. it's called defensive driving... In other words, they shouldn't be doing 50-60 MPH on world drive 100 yards from the MK toll plaza..

The costuming gave it away ..

to clarify , I am NOT saying the CM was at fault in this instance.. but I've seen quite a few CM's driving like property is some how connected to daytona.

You're missing the point. Yes - because they are cast members, and are driving throughout their employer's property. Regardless if you are on the clock or not - if you are still within the limits of the property of where you work. If they want to drive crazy on i4 near downtown Orlando - fine. But an employee's behavior always has to be at their best when they are still within the confines of their workplace - on or off the clock.
