WDW was 10% forever until they went to 20 for the Great Recession it's not like they always had it

ANY in park merch discount is relatively new - say 2006ish? - to begin with. Prior, most AP discounts period were for out of park venues (like WoD which did have a discount), except for some Epcot dining and tours, etc.

You are correct. WOD, art stores...and a $50 minimum to boot

So can I purchase now and get the extra month when we go and actually activate it? We may not go until later next year so that's why I'm asking.

Could someone clarify what exactly DVC members (who are not AP holders) are eligible for as a result of this promotion? Just the 20% merch discount? Do they get any or all of the food discounts?

I hate to be a wet blanket, but Merch prices have been creeping up lately. It's hard not to connect the discount rising and prices, too. I hate to be cynical.
I also noticed, this year almost all merchandise Disney sells went from ending it .95 to ending in .99, I don't really see what .4 more cents is doing for them, but I just thought I'd mention it.

Your right, not everything but a lot of things have jumped up. Some of the ornaments are getting ridiculous for one little ornament figure.

I know my father renewed his AP last week and went to Guest relations today and they gave him extra month.. could be because his renewal deadline was during promo period though.. always worth an ask..

The law of large numbers if they have a million (WDW probably has more) merchandise transactions per day that adds $40,000 per day to WDW's coffers for doing absolutely NOTHING. $280,000 per week or a cool $14,560,000 per year for doing nothing more than updating a price.

All I can say is it's about time! I've been waiting for these types of perks since we first visiting DL in 2009 and we saw how great their loyalty program was for their Passholders. Of course they finally make these changes when we're ready to let our passes lapse again.

Room rates with AP discounts are starting to get back down where they used to be to where I'd be willing to start staying on property again. I definitely appreciate the 10% off all F&B, I know it's not much, but it's something at least keep us in the park or opt for a sit-down meal every few visits instead of leaving. The 20% off Merch is what I really value. The price of the collectible merchandise has sky-rocketed in the past 10 years we've been visiting (I bought Olzsewski's scale replica of Cinderella Castle that now retails for $400 in the Art of Disney Stores for $200 about 8 years ago). I know 20% doesn't nearly get things back down to those prices, but it'll help make me feel like I'm getting a deal again. It's been a long time since I've actually pulled the trigger on collectibles at the parks. Yesterday I was able to get my wife an Eeyore Pandora charm for less than the store at my local mall. I'm not disappointed.

All in all, the Season Pass (now Silver Pass) has gone up in price about 30% since we became passholders in 2007 (EDIT: I show that we purchased passes in 2008 for $250, though it's a calculated field in my spreadsheet so I can't confirm. Our passes last year cost us $350 each...so 40% might be more accurate). But since then it now includes parking, and now 20% off all merch and 10% off all F&B. It's not too far out of proportion if you plan to use those perks.

I think the merch discount is significant enough to warrant renewing my AP! Even though I have TiW, I rarely get dining discounts at quick service restaurants so that adds up too. Add in the Memory Maker and I'm breaking even with a 7day park hopper pass by renewing my AP. I shop so much that the merch discount is key!

It is but at the same time they have been raising prices left and right

I was really hoping we would get some early entry days, like universal does. Seems like such a great way to keep everyone happy and help with capacity issues. I know we would go early ride the rides we want and then get out of the way before most of the tourist got into the parks.

DVC members receive the 20% merch discount at all Disney owned stores, just like the AP'ers. The difference is in the dining. DVC members only get 10% off Disney owned table service restaurants.

So, to clarify (I'm sorry to be pedantic, but I can't verify this info on any official site)...

APers get 10% at some table service places and 20% at others. Would DVC members get discounts at all of them but only 10%?

APers get 20% off at select quick service locations. DVC members do not get any discount at these, correct?
