Annual Passholder RFID begin processing 3/20

If you upgrade do you get a plastic card compared to the flimsy paper tickets? I would love the pass to be more sturdy.

The paper tickets are stronger than I thought - I washed my husband's wallet with his AP inside and it came out amazingly clean and worked fine this past weekend!

I went through the new "turnstiles" at MK this weekend and they had a CM with a handheld device scanning APs. This will probably be standard procedure till all Aps get converted over to the new pass.

I guess all entrances will be converted to RFID. Wonder if they'll still have the fingerprint readers for APs?

Yes. Biometrics/ticket tag will still be required. Always.

When I was entering at AK, everyone was doing this new thing. I had my FR AP. A guy with a handheld thing took my ticket and asked for ID. I didn't have to do the fingerprint.

APs don't convert until the 20th. Once converted then you will use your biometrics at the entry. Until then photo ID is required instead.

As of the news that we just received, between March 20th and May 19th, Annual Passholders can convert our paper tickets to the plastic RFID "hard" tickets. What happens after the May 19th date if we do not plan on going there before that time? Our next trip is probably not until October. What happens then and why would they publish those dates as conversion dates? Just wondering...

Since Ill be popping in later this week, and just so I understand ahead of time (because this was featured on the local orlando news last night and it was a tad confusing) do AP's get a new card or do you get a bracelet? Can you just get the new card and skip the bracelet?? Thanks

This is just my assumption, I have no insider knowledge, lol, but I am assuming that after that time is when the full Magicband/full rollout of the program will begin happening.

You'll just be getting the RFID Pass during this time. At a later time Disney well let AP know how they can convert to MagicBands! If you wish to not get a Magicband when they come available I'm sure you'll be able to just use the RFID card.

No...after that date you can convert your pass at ANY guest services desk. This is merely being done because of sheer volume...lots of people don't know that there are over a million passholders...it's completely unrelated to the wristbands.

Thank God. I don't want the band.

Speaking of wristbands...I was at the World this past weekend and did not see even ONE wristband. I wasn't looking at every person going by, and I know I need a new pair of glasses, but none the less I never got to see any. I was really surprised.

they are just starting the testing process now, you will not see them out and about for a while. For now, its just about working out the wristbands and getting them to do what they need them to do.

I got a chance to try on a friends Magic Band the other day and wore it for about an hour, it really is not that bad. The weight is the same as a light watch and it is made of the breathable stuff that a lot of those new watches are made of. I don't think I would ever wear one just cause I am not a watch person as it is but if I were going to be on vacation and either had to carry around a wallet with cards and such or just wear the band...yeah that would be a no brainer!

The new ticket stock (cards) look much like the old ones - character on the front, with a stripe at bottom with "Walt Disney World Passholder" written on them.
