No, I agree, there is variety coming, and I personally feel like I'm in the minority even being happy about that. Give me Guardians, give me Tron, I'll be first in line for Runaway Railway; my only point is that it's disappointing seeing that every time Disney does to try be innovative or fresh, the "BUT IT'S NOT A DARK RIDE" crowd has to ruin it for everyone else. However, I would definitely prefer a Mary Poppins themed dark ride than a carousel.

Believe it or not: I agree with you lol

I'm not excited about the placement of two of those, but I'm not upset they're coming. And I'm looking forward to Tron, even if I don't think it's what was needed right now for the MK (though I'm not upset it's coming).

The thing is, people advocate dark rides because the parks need to add capacity. Adding attractions low in capacity is not helpful, as fun as the minute romp on Tron will be, and it will be. I think that's why many advocate for them. No, not everything should be one. But the parks actually could use more of them. They really have a capacity issue. (EDIT: The reason Mickey and Minnie and Guardians should have been new builds).

All Disney fans want are omnimover dark rides, the whole park, every park. No one ever asks for anything else, everyone is upset when they don't get one, and they always find something to be disappointed about when they actually do.
I'm not. But if you want to pretend that on every new ride thread, every time, no matter the theme, it turns into "But why isn't a a dark ride???" then we must be living in two different realities. I think this attraction would be a great fit for a dark ride; what I don't think is that every other ride in the parks needs to be one, or should be. Let the Imagineers imagine something different, that's what made Disney, Disney.

I don't know that I've noticed that trend, but I would say that fans feel that way because Disney basically invented the elaborate long-form dark ride, but hasn't delivered a decent one in many many years. Of course people are going to want more of what Disney used to do best.

That said, I think most hardcore fans understand the need for balance and attraction variety in the parks. Not everything can be an e-ticket, and not everything should.

Poppins, however, should absolutely be a dark ride.

There isn't really anything "innovative and fresh" about off-the-shelf coasters.

And as I said above, dark rides can be longer and have higher capacity. Not always. But the parks are sorely lacking still, even with all of the stuff finally being added. Quick thrills aren't the best use even if they're fun. But we need them too ... that's what two decades of stagnation, replacement, closing of rides and restaurants will do ....

It should. Did not realize that my comment insinuated that I wanted all dark rides to close forever. Long live the omnimover.

I think you're feeling defensive, but nobody is really confonting your statement. Tone is hard to interpret online, as @Kman101 can testify oh-so-well. ;)

If anything, we're agreeing with your overall point, just stating that we haven't really noticed fans demanding only dark rides. I think we're really all on the same page here.

That's the conversation that should be happening. If Disney had properly maintained and expanded the past 15-20 years, the the addition of a new roller coaster or something deemed "not classic" wouldn't be cause such a stir, because the fans would have other, varied attractions to focus on.

Yep it should. I think I even said something similar somewhere recently, that if they had expanded the past 15-20 years, things like TRON (though to be fair, many in the TRON thread seem happy it's coming), among others, wouldn't or shouldn't be as much of an issue.

Coasters aren't always everyone's cup of tea either so that probably plays a roll in wanting dark rides. I personally don't need a park full of coasters, but I'd be in heaven in a park full of omnimovers ;) but yeah there needs to be variety. I have a slight fear of heights so I don't do all coasters so I'm probably someone who's not all 'rah rah it's a coaster' but I like a lot of them and do a lot of them and think they belong in the parks because there are many who do love them and we should have things for everyone. I just dislike when they seem to 'cheap' out and we get a meet and greet where a dark ride could have gone or things like that .... (I'm looking at you Beauty and the Beast, but I don't begrudge Enchanted Tales, it has it's place too, but for me I'd always prefer an actual ride ... but that's a different 'argument' I suppose, lol)

There are less Omnimovers today than there used to be.

A ride system developed by Disney.

It also helps that they are a good fit for virtually any theme and story. Although variety is good too.

Me and my family are from the same town that the van d y k e s are from. My dad sold a Mercedes he restored to Jerry van d y k e and his ex wife. She promptly let it run out of oil and blew the engine up.

That's my families closest relationship with them, lol.

Fun fact, Gene Hackman is also from the town I was born in, along with a NASA astronaut. :)

The town went to crap in the late 80s early 90s, but it was once pretty decent, even for being in the middle of a bunch of cornfields.
Don't forget Mathew Stover (Star Wars Novel Author as well as many other fine fantasy books).

And Robin Yount...cool little town.

We don't want a book report Poppins version similar to "Under the Sea - Journey of The Little Mermaid", fancy exterior and mediocre ride. Give us a high quality, omnimover like we know they're capable of building.

Yep. Take us THROUGH the scenes, not around them. And for Mermaid, I don't mind it's a retell of the movie, what are they going to do, a new adventure? Not likely. It just could have been a better re-tell. It has a lot of flaws but it has some good too. Another missed opportunity and lost potential though. I'm more disappointed than anything by it as, along with Poppins, Mermaid is a ride I long wanted in the parks.
