I'm upset that TDO hasn't tried to make anything recently that really wows us. That's what WDW used to do. But I don't mind going to UNI, DLR, or the international parks to be wowed.
Eh--I disagree (respectfully). The problem isn't the design of CTX. It's that it hasn't had a real refurbishment in over a decade (since it became Dinosaur, I believe...and that was more of a downgrade). I don't care how you design a ride--it needs to be refurbished at a MINIMUM every few years (yearly for wet rides). The pity with all of this is that regular maintenance would leave most rides only needing to close for a week or two most years and more lengthy closures for plussing. The current system involves TDO waiting years longer than reasonable, resulting in catastrophic damage to rides and very long, very expensive refurbs that mostly involve getting attractions back to being safe (and perhaps moderately show-ready). Penny wise, pound foolish is TDO, WDI and really TWDC nowadays to me. e.g. "Let's spend a billion dollars on fancy bracelets but refuse to spend a very modest amount of money on refurbing a rotted old light parade that would nonetheless be popular if updated." OR "Let's spend a fortune on gorgeous toilets but thanks, but no thanks on that Jungle Cruise refurb."The problem is that TDO or imagineersntried to do too much with animatronics that could not live up to the wear and tear of daily use. It would take constant maintenance to keep them working properly ecery day. They are complex with manynsmall working parts. This is evident on all attractions with animatronics, COP, SPLASH, DINOSAUR, EE. Maybe scale back the movements and keep them working would be the answer insted of trying to be unrealstic for two year lifespans.
Some of these effects (ok, really just the net on the Iguanodon) didn't really look that great. I belieave the carnotaurus head you're talking about is behind the vehicle when you approach the carnotaurus that takes your picture, is that correct? I was under the impression that was used in place of the charging carnotaurus and moved into place when the charging carnotaurus isn't functioning. Can anyone else verify if I'm far off?I remember posting about the Alioramus not moving anymore when I visited this past august! Its such a shame because this Ride is heavily influenced on the AA dinosaurs. If the Dinosaurs arent working properly, It wont have the same effect on the riders and not make them want to ride it again. I prefer it to be louder and darker at certain parts but I want to be able to see the dinosaurs when they are next to you. As of now this is the list of Broken Effects I could think of that need to be fixed, Or changes needed to be made. Feel free to add any
-Name change to something more exciting then Dinosaur
-Alioramus not moving fully
-Pterodactyl stationary
-compsognathus stationary
-Raptors neck positioned weirdly like hes twitching
-portals need effects back on plus pyro
-sauropod needs fixing so you cant here the machine when he opens his mouth
-chasing carno needs to move more
-capturing net back on iguanodon
-something else besides the cheap carnotaur head at the end and thebright light revealing the fake decorated room
-Last portal blinding light!
Am I missing any more?
I agree, maintenance needs to be done on a regular basis, but apparantly it is not being done so these high tech animatronics are no longer working properly, where as the old style one are with little maintenance. And I dont want a park full of Small world dolls. I like the high tech complicated things, only when they work though. the yeti is a complete failure as dinosaur is going the same way. Shut it down at night and work one animatronic at a time, not all at once. that is the only way to do a refurb in that park.Eh--I disagree (respectfully). The problem isn't the design of CTX. I am taking about the BIG GIANT head at the very end that you duck under. that doesnt look realistically size wise and it doesnt move. I think the laser net could be cool and work if done properly. Some of these effects (ok, really just the net on the Iguanodon) didn't really look that great. I agree. To me its still a really fun ride and exciting until you realize everything is really fake. That pterodactyl should atleast flap his wings or something! The pterodactyl kills me the most. You hear this horrifying screech and then you look up and see this not moving, plastic looking dinosaur.
It's still pretty scary, IMO.
