Animal Kingdom River question.

I think they should bring the boats back, but just as a transportation service like the friendship boats at epcot.

Done! I totally agree
I think one of the rides issues (from what I can see in the videos) was that the boats were quite slow and they were loud. Fix these two problems and solely use it as transportation and I'm in.
Imagine coming around a bend in the river and seeing EE creeping behind the trees from the boats vantage point, simply remarkable!

Kind of random but I remember a Disney Channel concert with N'SYNC around the time the park opened, and they were interviewed while riding around in these boats.

^ That's pretty cool. :)

And anyone remember a Sabrina the Teenage Witch episode that featured DAK?

YES! I used to watch Sabrina religiously, and still catch reruns whenever I can. I'm waiting to see that episode again, because now that I've worked at DAK it would be so much more interesting to watch.

See ^ that's how boring these boats were.... they can't even keep a thread on topic!

Thats not saying a whole lot. Threads devoted to Space Mountain and Epcot have gotten off topic many a time, and much faster I mights add than this thread.

Interesting history about the most popular boring ride Disney ever created. Shame that the idea can't be revived somehow. Like another post said, put a few more creatures and AAs in it, maybe add some rapids, other cool effects, and make the boats a bit fasterthat sort of thing... it could work. But the cost probably prohibits that kind of substantial make over. :(

I know I have a photo of it somewhere, but I can't find it - so here's an iffy one I found on the internet:

There were actually 3 animated creature fountains - a butterfly, a fish, and a lizard.

The funny story was when custodial would go out on a boat to pressure clean them, they would actually damage them and sink them. So then the maintenance team would have to go rescue them, use a diver to find them and them bring back in and repair them. I guess they just tired of fixing them.

I keep that episode in my tivo. I remember watching that episode for the first time and marvelling at the Tree of Life. That episode made me want to see AK.
They rode the River Boats in that episode. Valerie and Libby were commenting on it.

Anyone know what they did with the boats?

I know at least one is pulling duty for the Pirates Fireworks Cruise they have over in the Seven Seas Lagoon for the kiddies to partake in. If you are at the MK entrance at the right time of day, you'll see it docked near the Wilderness Lodge/Ft Wilderness launch.

Another one can still be seen at DAK, with the Fab 5 riding on it. I've seen it numerous times - comes out of the waterway between the Theatre in the Wild and Everest, and rides towards Asia.

I've seen that, too. It's pretty cool! I didn't realize they were from the AK river attraction, because I was unaware of it until this thread. But when I saw the pics, I recognized it right away.

What did the Iguanadon do? I never experienced the attraction, but I've always wanted to see him in action.

As I remember-

He was kind of bent down over a Log (Nice cue from the moment he's caught in the Transport field at the end of Countdown, like both were transported.) And he bent up, like he was noticing you, and generally moved around as you went past.

Wasn't there a idea to reuse them as themed dining on the lake for park guests?
