An update on MJ's condition

Okay guys..Not much else has changed...Because of the dextrose they are giving her..they have given her some Benadryl..
MJ is not a happy camper right now..she is trying to take the IV out and has already taken her hospital bracelet off. They just gave her some pain medicine and she seems to be calming down

They are not sending an endocrinologist to see her right now..because they seem to think her levels are so low because of her being sick.
Bonny said that when they do take her off of the sugar water..that if her levels go down low and fast again..she will demand to see an endocrinologist..she thinks that it is more then the sickness.

They will try to start her feeds again in the morning..as long as everything goes okay.
Andrew has said that he will not take her home until she is tolerating full feeds and keeping them down.

Bonny hopes to be out by the beginning of the week..but she said she really does not know..

I will update as I get any more info....

Thanks..

Hi Everyone. Adam is sitting with a sleeping MJ (Thank Goodness!) so that I could steal dopwn the hall and check in here. Nothing much has changed, it is still just a waiting game. Rotavirus is negative, they are sending a sample for Salmonella too. MJ is itching from the corn in the dextrose so we are giving lots of Benadryl. She is also complaining of pain in her Cerebral Palsy affected side, that may be crapms because she uis dehydrated, we just don't know, it is impossible to tell with her since she is so non verbal. I haven't heard her say much of anything but *ow* and *no* since this started (oh and to tell me to *stay* when I need to do something.

I am exhausted, Andrew is only visiting 2 hours in the mornings otherwise we don't see him. Mulch, Sweat and Shears called her, but she was asleep :(

Thank you all for everything, big hugs....

Its a doctor who works on the glands that secrete the hormones that regulate the body's functions...right now MJ is having trouble keeping her blood sugar high enough (that is controlled by insulin that is secreted by the pancreas). They need to find out why her insulin is not working properly or if she is secreting any at all. All these glands and their hormones need to work together to keep the body healthy and right now, somewhere-somehow, they are not.
She is obvious secreting insulin, too much. They need to find out why. Insulin basically keeps the bllod sugar from going too high by metabolizing the sugars and carbs in the body. To much insulin will cause the blood sugar to drop too low as will too much exercise and not eating enough food if you are a diabetic using injectable insulin which MJ isn't but Nana is. Ask Bonny about my crash at Typhoon Lagoon. Ouch. She is hypoglycemic.

Talked to Bonny a bit ago and she said that they are going to try to start up her feeds tonight. She is leary. Pray that it works. MJ had a rough day. Poor baby shouldn't have to go through all of this. Still praying for her.

I am aware of this...I've been a RN for almost 30 years and a diabetic for almost 5. I was trying to explain in simple terms for somebody who didn't know what this type of doctor does. She really needs to be seen by a pediatric endocrinologist.

I appreciate the plain talk medical terms and insurance terms kill me.

Bonny, I really feel for you, Andrew and MJ right now. Just hang tight and let the doctors do their job. Poor MJ needs to be stabilized first by the IC physicians. Mad is right, her symptoms are unusual. There are many factors that can cause super low blood sugar other than just increased insulin production. It could take some time to diagnose the root of the problem(s). Trust Mad. She knows a lot!

You just have to go slow and trust in the doctors. The hospital in which MJ is located is top notch. I just want you and your family to know that my family and I wish you all the very best. Try and relax (I know it's hard) and let the doctors do their job.

Marjorie June is a very special little girl... with some special needs... who, through the care of her adopted parents Bonny and Andrew, has grown to enrich the lives of all who have come to know her...
