American Idol Experience To Close

Instead of new animation related scenes in GMR, I'd go for a new ride all together replacing the old Animation Building going through the history of Disney Animation, possibly narrated by Jiminy Cricket or somebody. The sad remains of the Florida studio, reduced to character meet and greets and recycled activities from DCA, really needs a mercy killing.
If it includes Studio Ghibli in some way, I'm down. Mary Poppins should stay at GMR though

Scene 1: Steamboat Willie/Flowers and Trees/The Three Little Pigs
Scene 2: Snow White
Scene 3: Pinocchio
Scene 4: Night on Bald Mountain
Scene 5: Bambi/Mr. Toad
Scene 6: Cinderella/Lady and the Tramp/Sleeping Beauty
Scene 7: Jungle Book
Scene 8: Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Scene 9: My Neighbor Totoro
Scene 10: B&TB/Aladdin/Lion King
Scene 11: Nightmare Before Christmas
Scene 12: Pixar
Scene 13: Tangled/Frozen
Scene 14: finale (AA celebration with song and Disney's animated filmography listed(

That could be a long ride.... potentially 30 minutes. High capacity and better use of the space.

Of course, this isn't an armchair Imagineering thread! Back to topic!!

I asked my friend about that one tonight (same one who told me about AIE) and they know nothing about it. They don't think Indy is closing (at least not in the short term).

Personally, besides the cost of the show, I don't know why they would close it. It's a huge guest favorite, always plays to a packed house, eats capacity, is Indy's only presence at WDW, and fits with the "Lucas" theme of the area.

There's a Lucas "theme" to that area? Because two stand alone attractions are almost (but not quite) touching?

No, just Disney Feature Animation. You can pull enough out of the shorts and the 50 some odd films. Besides, Studio Ghibli isn't interested in theme park stuff anyway, the closest they ever got was the Museum and Pixar's already got Pixar Place to do stuff with

Goodbye and good riddance AI Experience!

On our last trip, cast members were begging guests as they walked by to try out. I was one of them. I mentioned how horribly I sing. "That doesn't matter!", one of them said. Uhhh... yes it does! :D

My daughter did it twice. We love it. It gives them a chance to be on a real stage with a large audience. If someone's never been in, how do you judge what it's like. It's anyone's right to judge, however.
I know I can't ride certain things because of a ruptured disk, but I always give every ride I am able to do at least one try. You just never know if you'll like it until you do. I think that's probably why this attraction is having a hard time. I've read many, many people on here who've never tried it, but hate it and want it gone.
I just hope they replace it with something else instead of just closing it.

I have always thought this type of attraction would be awesome and fit in DHS so well. I like your lineup in the scenes, I think you could show how Walt pushed animation to the quality medium to make a full features. Show the use of music and sound integration, the cameras and background tech used to make Pinocchio, and how great story and technology worked together to make Walt's movies stand the test of time, and then show how that has continued after his death, to present day. I think you are right on with it being a long ride, that if done right could be a big draw for young children because they can see all their Disney favorites, and informative enough to be attractive to older fans to. It would really be great!! To bad there is not a rumor out there for this, it is just one of those great things you think about when on forums like this, you get excited and then get down because you realize it will most likely never happen.

Frozen would be Scenes 15-20.

Well, when Backlot Express changes to the Cantina (which is a when, not if), everything from the Indy shop on the south end around Echo Lake to Tattoine Traders on the north end would be all Lucas. So, yeah.

One standalone attraction and a M&G is enough for a "Pixar Place" so two attractions and two shops in the same area would certainly be enough. Do you think it's a complete coincidence that the two Lucas attractions were located next to each other?

Certainly, Disney is planning future Indiana Jones movies. Even if they were to pull the stunt show, Indy would have a presence in the parks somewhere.

Oh yes, because TDO has proven time and time again that they open attractions for properties that deserve them (especially ones that have closed).

If we lose Indy, the chances are extremely likely that he will never have a presence in the WDW parks again.

I agree with this. Indy is a pretty solid show still. It could probably use an update, but for people who haven't seen it or haven't seen it in a while it's still really good. I took my kids this past year and they loved it. They hadn't even seen the movies before that, but have watched them since.

If they are closing Indy to make room for an Indy ride or StarWarsLand I could live with it, but they better not close it and leave the area abandoned or only use it for special events like its part of EPCOT or something. Don't they still use it for the cheerleading competition? DHS is severely lacking attractions already. I still think they might need to build something new over by Pixar Place before closing Indy in order to absorb the crowds. If not the place will really be hurting (even more than it is) for several years during construction. AIE could close tomorrow and very few people would care. Indy isn't in the same boat.

Agreed. Losing the Indy Stunt Show would be a major blow to DHS, no matter what replaces it.

A full Star Wars Land would be amazing and easily the greatest thing that could happen for WDW (if done right).

However, they need to be careful of what they lose as well. Star Wars is still only one property. Expanding Star Wars but losing Indy (and possibly losing Muppets as well, if rumors are to be believed), would make a thin park even thinner IMO.

And this opinion is from literally about as big of a Star Wars fan as you could possibly be,

"Never" is a long time, but for the foreseeable future is probably a reasonable statement. If they do make additional films in the franchise and they are successful, it's wouldn't be that surprising to see Burbank authorize a new Indy attraction in WDW.

I don't think any of the sources that have reported Star Wars Land taking over Idol and Indiana Jones are credible. 2 sites I just read said that "according to their Disney Source" Star Wars land and Cars land will both be open by 2018. I doubt Disney would start 2 projects at one time and I doubt Disney will do anything until Avatar land is completely don't. In both articles, they quote their source as saying that the projects will be quick and easy. It took Disney 3 years to complete the Mine Train alone, so I doubt any source out of Disney would say that the project will be quick and easy.
